This close connection with the old capital can especially be seen in the traditional streets of Sancho-machi, in the Nishigumi-district of the town, reminiscing of the Gion district in Kyoto.

Cafes and small restaurants also line up these streets to enjoy Wakasa’s delicious cuisine while taking a stroll in this quiet time capsule. On weekends and national holidays, you can visit and enjoy guided tours of one of the Houtourou Ryotei, an establishment in activity during the Meiji period.
