🌴One size rarely fits all. In the Pacific Islands, climate risks and self-reliance varies by perpherality. In other words, how remote a community is shapes how people cope with climate day to day.

🌴Dr Patrick Nunn from Australia's University of the Sunshine Coast and his team crafts three peripherality indices to identify strengths and needs of different communities across Fiji and Micronesia.

🌴While core communities are better informed about climate change, peripheral communities are more autonomous in their understanding of traditional knowledge. By measuring how far and accessible people are from towns and services, policy can better tailor adaption support.

An APN project mapped how remote or connected communities are to explain climate risk and self reliance in Fiji and Micronesia, providing a simple way to target support.

🌇Cities are heating up fast. Because of the urban heat island (UHI) effect, urban areas tend to experience higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas. Southeast Asian cities are no different.

🌇Dr Sigit Arifwidodo from Thailand's Kasetsart University and his team use remote sensing techniques to identify UHI patterns for Bangkok and Bandung. But the project doesn't end at assessing trends.

🌇In addition, the team conducted a household survey to assess how heat interferes with daily life. The project also takes their findings on UHI to inform policies on climate adaptation and mitigation strategies.
