As Japan celebrates Ramen Day today (11 July) and ramen being a popular Japanese dish amongst Singaporeans, a little fun fact? Nissin Foods launched the ‘Singapore Laksa’ instant noodles in 2015, which is now a cult favourite among Japanese consumers. Featuring a spicy coconut milk broth, it is one of the representative products of our two cultures’ fusion and provides a quick fix for those who miss this iconic Singaporean dish. ! 😋🍜

Ambassador Ong Eng Chuan was delighted to welcome Keidanren Chairman Tsutsui Yoshinobu and members of the Keidanren to the Embassy in June ahead of their visit to Singapore for the 15th Asian Business Summit later this month.

Singapore and Japan share strong and enduring economic ties, which remain a key pillar of our bilateral relationship.

Singapore has the highest number of regional HQs of Japanese firms in Southeast Asia, with 5,300 Japanese companies conducting activities in industries from electronics to digital to consumer goods and chemicals. 💼

As we commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year, we look forward to deepening our economic cooperation as we upgraded our relations to a Strategic Partnership.

🇸🇬🤝🇯🇵 Day 2 of Ambassador’s visit to Kyushu

We had a wonderful evening in Fukuoka! The Embassy was pleased to co-organise a reception with the Kyushu-Singapore Friendship Association, bringing together more than 30 Singaporeans living in Fukuoka and friends of Singapore.

It was a great opportunity to reconnect with our Singaporean community and catch up with officials from Fukuoka City, JTB, exchange students, and many friends who share a passion for Singapore. We were heartened to witness the strong people-to-people ties between Singapore and Kyushu.

Founded in 1987 and revitalised in 2024, the Kyushu-Singapore Friendship Association continues to play an important role in bringing our communities closer together. We also heard from the Association’s founder, who shared reflections on its journey and hopes for its future.

We look forward to supporting many more exchanges between Singapore and Kyushu through the Association, and we hope to welcome even more members to join this growing community!

Ambassador Ong gave the welcome remarks on 24 June, where SGX and Nikkei celebrated the 40th anniversary of their partnership in Tokyo. 🇸🇬🎊🇯🇵

what began as a collaboration in 1986 with the launch of the world‘s first Nikkei 225 Index Futures has since grown into a cornerstone of the global financial market. The SGX-Nikkei 225 was created with the aim to connect international investors with Japan’s equity market though Singapore’s role as a leading financial centre. 📈💰

Ambassador Ong was joined by SGX Group President Michael Syn, Nikkei Inc President & CEO lida Nobuhisa, and Nikkei Inc. Managing Director Yoneyama Yusuke, to celebrate this milestone.

As we celebrate SJ60 this year, both milestones speak to the strengths of the bonds between our two countries, not least in the financial ties we have built over the past few decades.

It’s the durian season ☀️ in Singapore now but Dori-tan, a five-year old Singaporean boy who loves durian and the Merlion, used to live with his family in Japan? The mascot character, inspired by Singapore’s iconic Merlion and the King of fruits – the durian, was created and introduced by STB Japan Office in 2007. In 2016, Dori-tan and the iconic Hello Kitty which represents ‘Cool Japan’, were the respective mascots for Singapore and Japan to commemorate the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. 🇸🇬🇯🇵

Ambassador Ong Eng Chuan began his representational visit to the Kyushu region with a call on Kagoshima Governor Shiota Koichi on 29 June. 🤝

Singapore and Kagoshima share a friendship that spans more than four decades, beginning with the first Singapore-Kagoshima Conference in 1982. In January 2026, we marked the 22nd iteration of the Conference, a testament to the enduring ties between Singapore and Kagoshima. 🇸🇬🇯🇵

During the meeting, Ambassador Ong and Governor Shiota exchanged views on Kagoshima’s economy, including opportunities to further expand exports of Kagoshima products to Singapore. Kagoshima’s wagyu, kurobuta pork, tea, sweet potatoes and shochu are among the prefecture’s distinctive offerings with strong potential in Singapore. 🍵🍠

As a hub for Southeast Asia and the world, Singapore can serve as a gateway for Kagoshima’s food and other products to reach wider markets. Beyond trade, Kagoshima’s natural scenery and rich food culture also hold strong appeal for Singaporeans. 🌏

As Singapore and Japan commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations in 2026 ( ), we look forward to deepening our partnership not only at the national level, but also through meaningful local-level exchanges.

Changi Airport is a symbol of our national pride. 🇸🇬✈️ Takenaka Corporation was a key contractor for the construction of Changi Airport Terminal 1, a cornerstone of Singapore’s aviation hub. Terminal 1 was completed and started operations as Changi Airport’s first terminal in 1981. Over the years, Takenaka Corporation was also involved in more than 20 projects related to the expansion of Changi Airport. 🇸🇬🤝🇯🇵
