Department of War Education Activity (DOWEA)

DoDEA is a field activity of the Office of the Secretary of Defense. It is headed by a director who oversees all agency functions from DoDEA headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. DoDEA's schools are divided into three regions; DoDEA Europe; DoDEA Pacific; and DoDEA Americas. Each region is managed by a Director for Student Excellence. Within each of these three regions, schools are organized into

As begins, now is a great time for students and families to prepare for a successful start to the new school year.

The Department of War Education Activity is implementing updated expectations for personal electronic devices in schools. To support focused, engaging, and safe learning environments, students will be expected to keep personal devices—including phones, smartwatches, tablets, and similar electronics—silenced and stored during the school day.

Exceptions remain in place for medical needs, 504 plans, special education services, and approved instructional activities.

Families can help by discussing these expectations before the first day of school and reinforcing the importance of staying engaged in learning while at school. Thank you for partnering with us to create classrooms where every student can thrive.

The Presidential Fitness Test continues to gain momentum across DoWEA, with 99.37% of schools successfully completing baseline assessments.

Lejeune High School MCJROTC cadets recently participated in the assessment, demonstrating a strong commitment to physical fitness, teamwork and personal growth. Their participation reflects the values of leadership and resilience that are central to both and the DoWEA mission.

Beyond measuring fitness, the Presidential Fitness Test encourages students to challenge themselves, develop healthy habits and recognize the importance of lifelong wellness. These experiences help students build confidence while reinforcing the connection between physical health and academic success.

As implementation continues, students across DoWEA are helping create a culture that values fitness, perseverance and continuous improvement.

As summer break begins, students are encouraged to stay active, spend time outdoors, maintain healthy habits and continue making wellness a part of their daily routine. Small steps taken today can help build a foundation for a healthy and successful future.
