The Philippine Consulate General in Osaka joins the nation in observing Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month, or MANAMo 2026, this September.

Established under Presidential Proclamation No. 316 in 2017, MANAMo promotes a deeper appreciation of the Philippines’ maritime heritage and identity as an archipelagic nation.

This year’s theme, “Karapatan sa Karagatan, Sama-sama Nating Alagaan,” reaffirms our commitment to defend the country’s legitimate maritime rights under international law. It also calls on every Filipino to protect our seas through cooperation, responsible stewardship, and shared responsibility.

Hiroshima City, 27-28 August 2026. Philippine Consul General to Osaka Donna M. Rodriguez visited Hiroshima Hino Motors Co., Ltd. in Hiroshima City at the invitation of Mr. Hirofumi Ueno, Chairman of the Board of Hiroshima Hino Motors. The Consul General visited Hiroshima Hino Motors headquarters, its branches in Saka and Hatsukaichi, and met with Filipino workers.

Founded in 1945, Hiroshima Hino Motors is into sales, parts, and service of trucks and buses and employs over 400 employees, including around 110 Filipino workers. The Filipino workers are automotive mechanics, many of whom are graduates of Bulacan State University (BulSU).

Bulacan State University and Hiroshima Hino Motors Co., Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on 19 November 2019 allowing faculty members and students at the College of Industrial Technology to attend training in Japan after they complete their Japanese language courses. The MOA also provided employment opportunities for BULSU graduates to fill the void of manpower in Japan.

During the two-day visit to the facilities and branches of Hino Motors, Consul General Rodriguez exchanged views with the Filipino workers on their job, conditions at the worksites, as well as their welfare and well-being. Consul General Rodriguez also met with Japanese managers of different branches of Hino Motors and was honored to be hosted at a dinner by Chairman Ueno.

In her visit to Hino Motors, Consul General Rodriguez was accompanied by MWO Osaka personnel comprising Labor Representative Manuel M. Dimaano, Welfare Officer-in-Charge Jonel Q. Habon, and administrative staff Mr. Ronaldo Marcos, Jr. and Ms. Dania Zein A. Domado.
