A tea making experience for individuals is held once every month🍵✨️
You are welcome to join even if it’s your first time. In an authentic tearoom you will be instructed by tea masters from the three major Sen family schools. The experience will be held in Japanese however they may use translation apps and there are documents in English and Chinese available. If space is available, feel free to join on the day!

June 4th to June 10th is Oral Health Week. To maintain the health of your teeth and mouth, practice thorough brushing and getting dental check-ups. 🦷✨️

🎯 Eligibility: Citizens aged 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 50, 60, 70-74 as well as those aged 75 or older who receive public assistance or belong to households receiving support benefits for Japanese returnees from China, etc. can receive a dental check-up at a participating medical institution in the city for \500 once a year at the target age. Prior reservation is required.　
*Those from households receiving public assistance, exempt from city tax or receiving support benefits for Japanese returnees from China etc. can receive the check-up for free by applying in advance at a public health center.

There are about 1200 hydrangea plants of 100 different varieties grown with recycled water processed at the Sambo Water Recycle Center. There are some rare varieties of hydrangeas too. Free and no reservation required. 💜🩷💙

Welcome to May’s edition of – Volume 10! 🍰☕️✨️
Today, I’m excited to introduce café ribbone, a new café that opened last November. 🎀✨️
I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner, who shared that she was inspired by coffee culture overseas and wanted to recreate that atmosphere here in Japan. She even told me about her travels around New Zealand’s North Island, which I was really excited to hear! 🇳🇿❤️
Her vision is to create a space where people can come just as they are, and leave feeling a little refreshed, with the energy to keep going. 😌✨️
You might be wondering about the meaning of “ribbone”, I was too! It actually has three meanings. First, a ribbon: something cute that adds a touch of color to everyday life. Second, “connection”: she hopes the café will become a place that connects with the local community. And lastly, “reborn”: the feeling of being refreshed after visiting. 🤩💪
I ordered the banana pound cake and a house-made drink made with locally grown lemons. 🍌🍋 Both were absolutely delicious, and the drink was especially refreshing on such a hot day. 😍💦 The interior was simple yet aesthetically pleasing as you can see in the photos. I definitely left feeling better than when I arrived, so if you ask me, that’s a success! 💖

Next week is Naniwa Honzome (Chusen) Week!
🔛 May 25th (Mon) ~ 30th (Sat)🎉👘
📍 Venue: Naka Ward Office entrance hall, Naka Ward Office east side community garden
👘 Exhibition of chusen products (25th ~ 30th 9:00-17:00)
There will be an exhibition of tenugui towels and panels showing the dyeing process.
✨️ Selling of products (29th & 30th 9:30-16:00)
Tenugui, gauze handkerchiefs, and other chusen and wazarashi products are available for purchase.
※On the 29th, a midday concert (12:00-12:45) will also be held at the east side community garden.
❄️ Snowflake pattern tie-dyeing workshop
(On 30th from 10:00, 11:00, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, 5 times in total, 8 people each time, 1,500 yen). It is a dyeing experience that children or first timers can easily do. The workshop is around 30-60 minutes long. You can take the tenugui you make home.
📩 To apply: Sakai City e-application system or by phone (072-270-8181), FAX (072-270-8101) addressed to the Naka Ward Office Planning and General Affairs Division. If there are free spaces, you may be able to join on the day.

The Tour of Japan is an international UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) official road cycling race. It is the largest event of its kind in Japan and the only stage race in the country that spans multiple prefectures. Every May, top riders from Japan and abroad compete across eight stages held throughout the country, delivering high‑level races. On race day, Daisen Park will also host a bicycle goods flea market and an opening ceremony featuring a performance by the Osaka Prefectural Police Band. In addition, admission to the Shimano Bicycle Museum in Sakaihigashi will be free, and opening hours will be extended until 18:00 (last entry 17:30)! Why not take this opportunity to visit?🚴‍♂️💨

The World Masters Games is an international multi-sport event for lifelong sports, organised every four years by the International Masters Games Association (IMGA). In principle, anyone who is 30 years of age or older and a sports enthusiast may participate. ⚽️❤️
In 2027 (postponed from 2021), Japan will host the Games for the first time, with venues spread across the Kansai region. The goal is to attract 20,000 overseas participants and 30,000 domestic participants, for a total of 50,000 competitors. 🎉🏃‍♀️

🔜 Event period: May 14th (Fri) to May 30th (Sun), 2027
During the 17‑day period, 35 official sports and 59 disciplines, including baseball, half marathon, judo, karate, tennis, and weightlifting will be held. In Sakai City, J‑GREEN Sakai will host the soccer and futsal events. Why not take this opportunity to join?

Journey through the nocturnal world accompanied by the music of Sakanaction.

This collaborative work with the popular band Sakanaction lets you fully experience both music and the starry sky. Inside a dome transformed into a full‑immersion art space, fantastical visuals blend with some of Sakanaction’s iconic songs, such as “Music,” “Goodbye,” and “Eureka”, surrounding the entire dome. The work has been highly praised overseas, earning two awards.
As you listen to the music, you find yourself transported from nighttime Tokyo to the starry sky and finally to outer space. It’s a special experience only a planetarium can offer.🌠🐟

Having the chance to actually experience it myself, I found that the music and visuals wrap around you and envelop you in this immersive experience. What I found especially interesting was how seamlessly the ocean imagery blended with the starry skies. This connection felt fitting, as the ocean theme reflects the “sakana” (fish in Japanese) in the band name “Sakanaction”. Furthermore, the sound of waves paired naturally with the constellations above, some even resembling fish, creating a quiet sense of harmony between sea and sky. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t miss out!🤗✨️
