横浜大空襲の歴史から、国際平和を考える
Reflecting on the Yokohama Great Air Raid

1945年5月29日、横浜の街は大規模な空襲に見舞われました。空襲は午前中に始まり、軍の施設だけでなく住宅や商店、学校などにも被害が及び、中心市街地の多くが焼け野原となりました。公式発表によると、わずか1時間ほどの間に3,650人もの尊い命が失われ、1万人以上が負傷しました。家を失った人は31万人以上にのぼるといわれています。
本日、横浜大空襲から81年を迎えます。横浜市役所では、犠牲となられた方々への追悼と恒久平和への祈念のため、半旗の掲揚を行うとともに、12時00分頃に黙とうを実施します。
横浜大空襲の記憶を今に伝える場として、市営地下鉄・阪東橋駅近くの大通り公園内には、犠牲者を悼み、平和への願いを込めた言葉が刻まれた平和記念碑があります。
こうした記憶に触れながら、平和についてあらためて考えてみませんか。

On May 29, 1945, the city of Yokohama was struck by a large-scale air raid. The attack began in the morning and affected not only military facilities but also homes, shops, and schools, leaving much of the central city reduced to ashes. According to official reports, in just about one hour, 3,650 precious lives were lost, and more than 10,000 people were injured. It is said that over 310,000 people lost their homes.
Today marks 81 years since the Yokohama Great Air Raid. At Yokohama City Hall, flags will be flown at half-mast in remembrance of the victims and in prayer for lasting peace. In addition, a moment of silence will be observed at around 12:00 p.m.
A peace memorial stands in Odori Park near Bandobashi Station on the municipal subway line. It bears words mourning the victims and expressing a wish for peace.
As we reflect on these memories, let us take a moment to think again about peace.

Reflecting on the Yokohama Great Air Raid and other tragedies of war, the “Heiwa no tame no sensōten in Yokohama” Planning Committee is organizing two special events to more carefully consider the meaning of peace.
Now more than ever, we hope to see an end to war. Stop by the events and join us in remembering the realities of war and in thinking about how we can build a world without war or nuclear weapons.

ごみ焼却時の蒸気を活用した脱炭素化の実証試験を開始しました
Pilot project launched to use waste incineration steam for decarbonization

横浜市は、市内の脱炭素化に向けた取組の一環として、ごみ焼却時に発生する蒸気を民間事業者に供給する実証試験を開始しました。本取組は、自治体が運営するごみ焼却工場から民間事業者へ蒸気を供給するものであり、横浜市では初めての事例です。
本実証試験では、横浜市と東亞合成株式会社が連携し、ごみ焼却に伴って発生する蒸気を同社の事業活動に活用します。これにより、化石燃料の使用量削減と、市内における二酸化炭素排出量の削減が期待されています。
全国的に見ても、ごみ焼却工場の蒸気を民間事業者へ供給する同様の事例は極めて少なく、本取組は先進的なモデルケースとして注目されます。横浜市は、こうした先導的な取組を通じて、循環型かつ低炭素な都市づくりを推進しています。
今後は、本実証試験の成果を検証し、将来的な展開や他地域への波及も視野に入れながら、国際的な潮流である脱炭素化の取組を進めていく予定です。

As part of its efforts to promote decarbonization, the City of Yokohama has launched a pilot project that supplies steam generated during waste incineration to a private-sector business. This initiative marks the first time Yokohama has provided steam from a municipally operated waste incineration plant to a private company.
Yokohama is working in partnership with Toagosei Co., Ltd. to utilize steam produced during waste incineration in the company’s operations. By replacing fossil fuels, we expect to reduce both fuel use and CO₂ emissions within the city.
Even on a national level, similar examples are extremely rare, making this project a pioneering model for the effective use of waste-incineration heat. Yokohama aims to demonstrate how municipal facilities can contribute to industrial decarbonization through practical collaboration.
The city will evaluate the results of the pilot project and continue advancing decarbonization efforts, an important global trend, with the goal of expanding its impact and sharing the model more widely.

🖼️ぬりえでせかいにいってみよう！ブース大盛況♪🎨
Many people visited our coloring activities booth!

５月５日、GWイベント「わくわく！こどもデー」に、ぬり絵で楽しく姉妹・友好都市（※）について学べるブースを出展！
200名を超えるお子さんに、ぬり絵を通じて、横浜市と世界8つの姉妹・友好都市とのつながりに触れていただくことができました。 ✈️
ブースの出口では、ぷくっとかわいいオリジナルシールをプレゼント🎁
「楽しかった！」「シールかわいい！」という声がたくさん聞かれました♪

また、ぬり絵の完成を待つ間に、保護者の皆さまにはパネル展示をご覧いただいたり、アンケートにご協力いただいたりと、親子で国際交流を身近に感じていただける機会となりました。

On May 5, the City of Yokohama displayed a booth at the “Waku Waku! Kids Day” Golden Week event.
Over 200 children participated in coloring activities to learn about our 8 sister and friendship cities*, and received an original puffy sticker for joining.
After, many of the children told us that they had fun coloring and were glad to get a sticker.

Parents looked at the booth display and answered surveys while their children colored.
Overall, the event was a wonderful opportunity for families to learn more about Yokohama’s friendships with other cities around the world.

山中市長がWFPウォーク・ザ・ワールド 2026 横浜に参加しました
Mayor Yamanaka joins WFP Walk the World 2026 Yokohama

５月10日、横浜みなとみらい地区でチャリティーイベント「WFPウォーク・ザ・ワールド 2026 横浜」が開催され、4,689人が参加しました。

本イベントは、途上国の子どもたちの飢餓をなくすことを目的とし、参加費の一部と追加寄付により、合計5,484,196円の支援が集まりました。この寄付は、約18万2,800人分の学校給食に相当し、国連WFPが実施する学校給食支援に活用されます。

当日は、山中市長も参加し、横浜の街を歩きながら、世界の子どもたちへの支援の輪を広げました。

On May 10, the charity event ‘WFP Walk the World 2026 Yokohama’ was held in the Minato Mirai area of Yokohama, bringing together 4,689 participants.

The event aims to help end hunger among children in developing countries. Through participation fees and additional donations, a total of 5,484,196 yen was raised. This is enough to provide approximately 182,800 school meals through the UN World Food Programme’s school feeding programs.

The event was joined by Mayor Yamanaka, who walked through the city sharing Yokohama’s commitment to supporting children around the world.

横浜市、市役所関連約1,200施設で「ごみDX」を本格始動しました
Yokohama launches full-scale ‘waste DX’ at city facilities

横浜市は、区役所や学校、地区センターなど市役所関連約1,200施設を対象に、廃棄物管理をデジタル化する「ごみDX」を2026年4月1日から本格導入しました。
これまで紙やExcelで分散管理されていた廃棄物情報を一元管理することで、年間約40万件にのぼる事務作業をデジタル化。現場での入力作業の簡素化や、自動集計、回収業者とのデータ共有により、大幅な業務効率化が期待されています。
導入される『廃棄物管理システム』は、施設別・種類別に廃棄物データを自動集計し、電子マニフェストとも連携。排出から処理までの流れを一体的に把握することが可能になります。
今後は、得られたデータを活用して分別の高度化やリサイクル拡大を進めるとともに、AIによる回収ルート最適化なども視野に入れ、循環型社会の実現に向けた取り組みを加速していきます。

The City of Yokohama has launched a full-scale digital transformation (DX) initiative for waste management across approximately 1,200 city-related facilities, including ward offices, schools, and community centers.
From April 1, 2026, waste data that was previously managed through paper documents and spreadsheets is now centrally digitized. This shift is expected to streamline around 400,000 administrative tasks each year by simplifying on-site data entry, enabling automatic aggregation, and sharing information directly with waste collection companies.
The new waste management system automatically compiles data by facility and waste type and links with Japan’s electronic manifest system, allowing waste to be tracked consistently from discharge through final treatment.
By using this data to improve waste sorting, increase recycling, and explore AI-based collection route optimization, Yokohama is taking the lead in building a more efficient and sustainable circular society.

グローバル・ポート・セーフティ・プロジェクト：フランスとMOUを締結しました
Global Ports Safety Project: New Collaboration with France

横浜市は、フランス共和国の国際協力機関であるExpertise Franceと、「グローバル・ポート・セーフティ（GPS）プロジェクト」の共同実施に向けた覚書（MOU）を締結しました。横浜市は、この取組を通じて、同市の港湾の国際的な存在感を高め、市のグローバル戦略をさらに推進することを目指しています。
MOUの締結を受け、高市早苗首相とエマニュエル・マクロン大統領は、2026年11月25日から26日にかけて横浜で開催される「OXExpo（オーシャン・トランスフォーメーション・エキスポ）」の一環として、GPSと横浜港の間で共同訓練プロジェクトが締結されたことを歓迎する「日仏首脳共同声明」を発表しました。
「グローバル・ポート・セーフティ（GPS）プロジェクト」は、欧州連合（EU）がフランス共和国およびその他のパートナーと協力して実施する国際協力イニシアティブであり、南アジア・東南アジアの港湾における海上安全、保安、持続可能性の向上を目的としています。
この提携は、広く評価されている横浜港の脱炭素化への取組に関する新たな成果の一つと見なすことができ、横浜港が知見や経験をより効果的に共有することを可能にするものです。これにより、東南アジアにおける港湾の安全性と脱炭素化に一層貢献することが期待されています。

The City of Yokohama has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Expertise France, the international cooperation agency of France, for the joint implementation of the Global Ports Safety (GPS) Project. Through this initiative, Yokohama aims to enhance the international presence of its port and further promote the city’s global strategies.
Following the conclusion of the MOU, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, issued a Japan–France Joint Leaders’ Statement welcoming the signing of a joint training project between GPS and the Port of Yokohama as part of the OXExpo (Ocean Transformation Exhibition), to be held in Yokohama in November 25–26, 2026.
The Global Ports Safety (GPS) Project is an international cooperation initiative implemented by the European Union (EU) in collaboration with France and other partners, aiming to enhance maritime safety, security, and sustainability at ports in South and Southeast Asia.
This partnership, which can be seen as yet another achievement within the widely recognized decarbonization efforts of the Port of Yokohama, will enable Yokohama to more effectively share its knowhow and experience, thus further contributing to port safety and decarbonization in Southeast Asia.

Yokohama–Busan Partner City 20th Anniversary Photo Exhibition

横浜市と釜山広域市は、パートナー都市提携から20周年を迎えました。これを記念し、両市のこれまでの交流の歩みを写真で振り返る記念写真展を開催します。
本写真展では、釜山広域市のご協力により提供された写真も展示し、姉妹都市・釜山の魅力を市民の皆さまにより身近に感じていただける内容となっています。国際交流の歴史や人と人とのつながりを、ぜひ会場でご覧ください。
会場は、みなとみらい線「日本大通り駅」3番出口直結と、アクセスも便利です。お買い物やお散歩の合間にも気軽にお立ち寄りいただけます。

また、同時期には、横浜ユーラシア文化館にて企画展「韓国 手仕事の美事 ― 刺繍、ポジャギ、メドゥプ・・・」も開催中。約300点におよぶ韓国の伝統手工芸品を通して、暮らしの中に息づく美意識や文化をご紹介します。

Yokohama City and Busan Metropolitan City are celebrating twenty years of their Partner City agreement. To mark this occasion, we are holding a commemorative photo exhibition, looking back on the history of exchanges between the two cities.
Busan Metropolitan City has also kindly provided photos that capture the beauty and allure of Busan.
We invite you to experience the stories of international exchange and the connections between people firsthand at the venue, conveniently located with direct access from Exit 3 of Nihon-Ōdōri Station on the Minatomirai Line.

At the same time, the Yokohama Eurasia Cultural Museum is organizing a special exhibition “The Beauty of Korean Handicrafts — Embroidery, Pojagi, Maedeup…,” featuring approximately 300 traditional Korean handicrafts. The exhibition introduces the aesthetics and culture that are woven into everyday life.
