Delivering complex engineering projects in northern Japan requires immense coordination, and Bill stepped up in a big way. His exceptional dedication, technical expertise, and hands-on support were absolutely vital in helping the Misawa Resident Office maintain seamless delivery on several highly complex, critical projects.

This week, JED honored and thanked our Information Management Office (IMO) Chief, Denmarcus "Denny" Carlos, as he prepares for his next chapter.

When people think of USACE, they often picture concrete, steel, and heavy machinery. But in modern engineering, we can't place a single beam or design a single structure without the digital network that connects us. Denny and his incredible IMO team are the quiet force behind our entire operation, serving as the literal backbone that allows our engineers, project managers, and partners to collaborate seamlessly across oceans and time zones. From securing our communications to keeping our workforce connected globally, Denny’s leadership has kept our digital infrastructure rock-solid.

Denny, thank you for your years of dedication, your technical leadership, and your unwavering support of the JED family. You have left a lasting legacy on our district, and we wish you the absolute best on your next assignment!

Col. Biggs, JED commander, visited Misawa Air Base for an on-site update on a highly complex Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Additive Injection Fuel System project. While massive buildings and hangars often catch the eye, it is specialized, behind-the-scenes infrastructure like this fuel system that keeps our aircraft in the sky.

Managing a technical installation of this scale requires expert coordination between JED engineers, the DLA, and our host nation partners. Every pipe laid and system tested is a direct investment in the rapid-response capability and long-term readiness.

Col. Biggs, JED commander, recently joined the Japan District construction team on-site to inspect progress on the massive new 10-bay hangar project. Once complete, this state-of-the-art facility will be absolutely instrumental in supporting the regional fighter program and ensuring our forces remain mission-ready for the foreseeable future.

Large-scale vertical construction projects like this require incredible technical precision, especially when building to withstand the demanding local environmental conditions in northern Japan. Seeing the sheer scale of the hangar firsthand highlights the dedication of our engineers, host nation partners, and contractors who are turning these massive designs into reality.

Sometimes the most important safety tools we carry can fit right in our pockets! 💳🌡️

As summer temperatures continue to soar across Japan, our safety teams and project managers are taking every precaution to protect our workforce. During recent site visits, our teams were handed handy, business-card-sized reminders detailing the early signs of heat stress.

On a busy, hot construction site, it is incredibly easy to get caught up in the task at hand and ignore the warning signs. These pocket-sized cards serve as a quick, vital reference to help our team members monitor themselves and, just as importantly, watch out for their battle buddies on the ground. Recognizing the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke can save a life.

Safety isn't just a briefing we give, it is a continuous, daily practice. By equipping our teams with the right knowledge and tools, we ensure everyone goes home safely at the end of the shift.

Stay hydrated, seek shade, watch out for each other, and keep cool out there!

During his visit to Japan last week, Brig. Gen. Joseph C. “Clete” Goetz II, USACE Pacific Ocean Division commander, took time to present his Commander’s Coin to several outstanding members of our team across the district.

In the Army, receiving a commander's coin is a distinct mark of excellence, given on the spot by senior leaders to recognize hard work, dedication, and direct impact on the mission. Our workforce is the engine that drives engineering solutions in the Pacific, and it was incredible to see our local national and U.S. teammates recognized at the division level for the vital work they do every single day.

A huge congratulations to all of our recent coin recipients! Thank you for your relentless dedication to taking care of people and building a stronger, more resilient Indo-Pacific.
