OSIEKO MATERNITY WING SET FOR REHABILITATION

The long-disused maternity wing at Osieko Health Facility is set to undergo major rehabilitation after years of neglect due to extensive damage caused by a severe bat infestation.
The bats have destroyed sections of the ceiling, while their droppings have heavily soiled the facility, making it unsuitable for patients and health workers.
The rehabilitation works will involve thorough cleaning and disinfection of the affected areas, replacement of the damaged ceiling and general renovation to restore the maternity wing to a safe and functional condition.
The scope of the project will also include the renovation of vandalised manholes, construction of a proper sewer system and installation of a placenta pit to support safe and hygienic disposal of placental waste.
The rehabilitation is expected to restore the maternity wing and improve sanitation, safety and the overall environment for expectant mothers and newborns receiving maternal and child health services at Osieko Health Facility.

ECDE CLASSROOM CONTINUES TO GAIN MOMENTUM ACROSS SUBCOUNTIES.

The County Government of Busia continues to make significant investments in education infrastructure through the Department of Education, with technical support from the Directorate of Public Works, to ensure the successful delivery of 78 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classrooms under Phase II of the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI).

The three-month programme is progressing steadily across all seven sub-counties, with construction works at various stages including walling, ring beam casting, roofing and finishing.

The initiative underscores the county's commitment to expanding access to quality learning spaces for young learners while accelerating implementation timelines through community-led project management structures.

The Directorate of Public Works remains on course in providing technical oversight and supervision to guarantee that the classrooms are completed to the required standards and within the stipulated timeframe.

ECDE CLASSROOM UNITS TAKE SHAPE ACROSS BUSIA COUNTY

Construction of 78 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classroom units under the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI), spearheaded by H.E. Dr. Paul Otuoma, is progressing steadily across Busia County, with works at several sites having reached ring beam and roofing stages.

Implemented through community-led Project Management Committees (PMCs), the programme is being undertaken in all seven sub-counties as the county intensifies efforts to enhance learning infrastructure and improve access to quality early childhood education.

Upon completion, the modern classroom units will provide a safe and conducive learning environment for young learners, reinforcing the county's commitment to investing in foundational education and sustainable public infrastructure.

BUSIA COUNTY TREASURY RELEASES KSH 36M FOR 73 ECD CLASSROOMS

Busia County Treasury has released Kshs. 36,567,420 for the construction of 73 ECD classrooms across the county under the Rapid Results Initiative.

The programme follows the successful completion of 97 classrooms in the first phase, with a second batch of funding expected next week.

The projects will be supervised by technical experts from the Department of Public Works to ensure professionalism, quality standards, and accountability from start to completion.
The classrooms are expected to be completed by 31st June 2026.

AMUKURA CENTRAL WARD BENEFITS FROM CRIIP PHASE II UNDER ROUTINE ROAD MAINTENANCE PROGRAMME

Today, works were undertaken in Amukura Central Ward, Teso South Sub-County, along the 4.3-kilometre stretch from Kamarinyang Primary Road to Simba Chai, connecting to the Simba Chai Cassava Plant and the Shopping Centre.

The scope of works include grading and gravelling, with a total of 11 kilometres of roads being improved across the ward to enhance accessibility

Residents have welcomed the initiative, terming it a timely intervention that will significantly reduce transportation costs and ease movement, especially for school-going children.

The CRIIP Phase II projects, being implemented across all wards, are aimed at strengthening the county’s road network, boosting local economic activities, and improving livelihoods across Busia County.

H.E. Dr. William Ruto, CGH, President of the Republic of Kenya, has arrived in Busia County,for an extensive two-day tour.

At Mundere, the road has been commissioned for the construction of the Mundere–Okando–Mumbaka–Sio Port–Nangina Road, which traverses both Budalang’i and Funyula constituencies.

This project forms part of a KSh 3 billion investment by the Government of Kenya for road rehabilitation in the county.
