KENYA–EGYPT PARTNERSHIP BOOSTS WATER DEVELOPMENT.

The Chief Executive Officer of the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency, Mr. Edwin C. Rotich, today, joined the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, together with Ministry officials and Agencies representatives, in a high-level meeting with the Egyptian Ambassador to Kenya. The engagement focused on strengthening collaboration and sharing expertise to advance key water development projects across the country.

Among the proposals discussed was the expansion of the Chebara Water Supply Project, which currently serves Eldoret Town and its surrounding areas. The plan involves installing an additional treated water pipeline, along with the necessary supporting infrastructure, alongside the existing system to enhance supply capacity and improve access for residents in Eldoret and neighbouring communities.

During the meeting, the Principal Secretary commended the strong and growing partnership between Kenya and Egypt, reaffirming the government’s commitment to initiatives that deliver sustainable water solutions, enhance livelihoods, and drive socio-economic development.

Today, NRVWWDA joined partners and the community in commemorating EarthDay.org Earth Day by supporting a remarkable Guinness World Record attempt led by Hillary Kibiwott to plant 24,000 tree seedlings within 24 hours at Kameza, Kessup Forest in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The Agency team, alongside Elgeyo Marakwet County Governor H.E. Wisely Rotich, participated in planting indigenous tree seedlings, reaffirming our shared commitment to environmental conservation. The Chief Executive Officer of the North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (NRVWWDA), CPA Edwin Rotich, alongside Board Member Mr. David Kimeto, today paid a courtesy call to the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry Of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Eng. Eric Muuga, at Maji House, Nairobi.

The engagement provided an opportunity to brief the Cabinet Secretary on the progress of key ongoing and planned projects under the Agency’s mandate, including the Mois Bridge–Matunda, Maron–Sibow, and Kosich–Embotut Water Supply Projects.

Discussions also highlighted progress on the planned designs for the Lodwar Town Sewerage Project, supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) under the National Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Programme (NUWSSP).

The agency today participated in a consultative webinar convened by the Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, CBS, Ministry Of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation and hosted by the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei, EGH.

The session brought together sector agencies, the Council of Governors, Water Service Providers, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on enhancing service delivery across the water and sanitation sector.

Discussions emphasized the critical role of accountability, professionalism, and ethical conduct in public service.

Key challenges affecting service delivery—including workforce capacity, infrastructure gaps, and financing constraints—were highlighted, with a strong call for enhanced coordination and efficient resource utilization across institutions.

Today, the team from North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (NRVWWDA) led a successful tree growing exercise at Laini Moja Wetland in Tarakwa Ward, Kesses Sub-County, Uasin Gishu County.
Over 7,000 assorted indigenous tree seedlings were planted in a collective effort to rehabilitate and protect this vital ecosystem—strengthening water catchment areas and promoting environmental sustainability.
This impactful initiative was made possible through collaboration with Eldoret Iten Water Fund, ELDOWAS, Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Nabkoi Community Forest Association (CFA), Ainabkoi- Kesses Water Resources Users Association (WRUA), Koriomat Comprehensive Primary School and the local community.
Together, we are not just planting trees—we are restoring ecosystems, safeguarding water resources, and building resilience for future generations in contribution to 15 billion tree growing agenda.

The North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency, led by Chief Executive Officer CPA Edwin Rotich, today joined the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Eng. Eric Muuga, alongside the Cabinet Secretary for Public Administration, Human Capital Development and Special Programs, Hon. Geoffrey Ruku, and other distinguished leaders during the 33rd World Water Day celebrations held at Mwerongundu Junior Secondary School in Igembe North, Meru County.

In his address, Eng. Muuga reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting water agencies and other water sector stakeholders in ensuring efficient management of water resources, with the goal of expanding access to clean and safe water for all.

As part of its contribution, the Agency donated five 10,000-litre water storage tanks to support the Mwerongundu community, including local schools.

The event was also graced by key leaders, including Government Spokesperson Hon. Isaac Mwaura, Principal Secretary for the State Department of Water and Sanitation Mr. Julius Korir, and the area Member of Parliament Hon. Taitumu Julius M’anaiba, among other dignitaries and stakeholders.

This year’s theme, “Water and Gender,” underscores the critical role of inclusive access to water and sanitation in advancing equality and sustainable development. The celebration marks an important milestone in the water sector, reinforcing the Agency’s continued commitment to developing, managing, and maintaining water and sanitation infrastructure to enhance livelihoods and drive economic growth.

Our team had the opportunity to engage with stakeholders, partners, and customers—showcasing our projects and achievements while also gaining valuable insights to inform our ongoing efforts.

Manager Resource Planning, Research and Strategy Mr. Sammy Kigen, today participated in a tree growing exercise at MCK Mariri Comprehensive School in Igembe North, Meru County, ahead of the 33rd World Water Day celebrations scheduled for 22nd March 2026 at Mwerongundu Junior Secondary School.
The Agency team was joined by pupils and the school’s head teacher, who warmly welcomed the initiative and pledged to nurture the planted trees as part of ongoing environmental conservation efforts.
