The Kenya Society for the Blind (KSB) team, led by Albert Masua, the Head of Eye Care, met with the Embu County Health team led by Henry Thiga, Chief Officer for Public Health, to discuss the rollout of the Presbyopia Intervention Pilot Project in Embu County. Implemented in partnership with the Council of Governors and supported by The Coalition for Clear Vision (TCCV) and the Livelihood Impact Fund, the project seeks to improve access to affordable near-vision correction through strengthened community referral systems, improved access to eye care services at health facilities, and targeted vision screening camps.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of KSB and the Embu County Government to expanding access to quality eye care and ensuring more people receive timely interventions for presbyopia, enabling them to remain productive and independent in their daily lives.
The pilot phase August to December 2026 targets to distribute 18,000 near vision glasses.
The engagement also included a review of the progress and impact of the Embu Vision Centre, highlighting its important role in delivering accessible, affordable, and quality eye care services to the community. The Vision Centre continues to strengthen the countyโs eye health system by bringing essential services closer to those who need them most.
