Lewa House is a family-run safari lodge in Kenya’s UNESCO-listed Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

Hosted by fourth-generation custodians, we offer an authentic safari rooted in conservation and community. Located in the very heart of the malaria free Lewa Wildlife Conservancy this small owner run lodge offers unique access to all corners of this world renowned conservation area. Perched on the crest of a hill with extensive views south to Mount Kenya and north to the rugged Mathews Range and the sacred mountain of Ol Lolokwe. Lewa House looks out over a diverse range of ecosystems that make up this protected area and offers excellent access to all aspects of this rich wildlife arena. Through a range of authentic activities guests are able to unlock and understand what is being achieved here.

A Day in the Life of a Lewa Ranger

Before the sun rises over Mount Kenya, Lewa’s rangers are already walking the landscape.

For many, this responsibility stretches back decades, carrying knowledge passed down through generations.

For a ranger, that connection to nature is not measured by scale. It can be found in the trust between a ranger and a bloodhound tracker dog. In the care given to an orphaned rhino called Elvis — successfully raised by his keepers and ultimately released back into the wild. And in the responsibility of protecting 62,000 acres of wilderness — where forests, grasslands, wetlands and semi-arid plains come together to form a landscape of extraordinary biodiversity.

It is about protecting the landscape, the wildlife and the future they share. The motivation is simple: This place is worth protecting.

Gentle Giants of Lewa
Led by the oldest female, elephant families follow ancient migration routes that have connected this landscape for generations.

Her knowledge guides the herd to food, water and safe passage—wisdom passed from one generation to the next.

As a keystone species, elephants do more than move through the landscape. They shape it, creating habitats that support countless plants and animals while reminding us that every species plays a role in the health of the ecosystem.

At Lewa, protecting elephants means protecting the connections between wildlife, people and place.

The Lions of Lewa

Powerful, patient and deeply connected to the landscape they call home, lions are far more than Africa's most iconic predators.

As apex predators, they help maintain the natural balance of the ecosystem, ensuring healthy populations of herbivores and supporting the biodiversity that allows countless other species to thrive.

At Lewa, every lion is part of a much larger story—one of conservation, coexistence and the delicate relationships that sustain life across the conservancy.

Running for a Wilder Future 🏃🏾‍♂️🌍

On Saturday 27 June, runners from across Kenya and around the world will gather on Lewa for one of Africa's most extraordinary races — the Lewa Safari Marathon.

Set beneath Mount Kenya and surrounded by wildlife, this is more than a marathon.

Since 2000, the event has raised vital funds for conservation, education, healthcare and community development, helping protect endangered species and support the people who live alongside them.

For us at Lewa House, the marathon has become part of the rhythm of the year - a weekend filled with purpose, energy and the reminder that conservation is powered by people.
