We are indigenous Kenyans, representatives of the Mijikenda tribe. Our home is in Junju location in south Kilifi County, north of Mombasa. We take care of the kaya - the sacred forest that is located in our area. We protect it against devastation and excessive human interference. We educate young people to respect nature and live in accordance with the laws of nature. We would like to invite you t
o our tourist center, which we have created in the forest - to Kaya Tsolokero, to show you not only the beauty of wildlife, but also the history, culture and traditions of the Kenyan coast tribes. In our center you can see traditional: Mijikenda houses, folk wears, daily activities, dances and instruments of the Mijikenda people. You will learn about the various rules related to entering and staying in the sacred forest. We will explain why you should throw out a green branch in the marked place, why you should take off your shoes (this rule does not apply to tourists), who are represented by our kigango and where the cemetery is located. Along the way, our guide will tell you about trees, herbs, etc. that we still use in medicine, cosmetics (or production) and in many other areas of life. By visiting us, you will help us save our culture from forgetfulness. You are all welcome!
