Today, H.E Simon Kachapin joined KCB Managing Director Annastacia Kimtai and other senior officials at the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Headquarters, Kencom House, Nairobi, for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that marks the beginning of a strategic partnership between the County Government of West Pokot and KCB Bank.
The partnership establishes a framework for advancing clean energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable development initiatives across the county. It will explore renewable energy solutions for health facilities and other county institutions, promote clean cooking technologies, and support climate-smart initiatives aimed at improving service delivery while protecting the environment.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Governor Kachapin stated that the County Government of West Pokot prides itself in building strong partnerships that accelerate sustainable development, improve the quality of life of residents, and create lasting opportunities for future generations.
The Governor expressed his sincere appreciation to KCB Bank for partnering with the County Government on this important journey, noting that together they are taking deliberate steps towards a greener, more resilient, and more prosperous West Pokot.
The County Government delegation included County Secretary Jonathan Siwanyang, County Attorney Robert Katina, CECM for Trade, Industry, Cooperative Development and Energy Joshua Rutto, and Chief of Staff Tyno Rotino.

The establishment of the long-awaited Kapenguria University College has taken a major step forward following a comprehensive inspection by a technical team from the University of Nairobi to assess the readiness of the proposed campus.
‎
‎The delegation was received by the Taskforce on the Establishment of a Constituent University College in West Pokot County, which has spearheaded efforts to actualize the project.
‎
‎The multidisciplinary team from the University of Nairobi, comprising experts from the Vice Chancellor’s Office, Infrastructure, ICT, the Registrar’s Office, Quality Assurance, Administration, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Finance departments, conducted a detailed assessment of the facility.
‎
‎The team inspected the 72-acre campus and evaluated key infrastructure, including lecture halls, offices, the student centre, kitchen and dining facilities, sanitation systems, water treatment infrastructure, and the institution’s overall capacity. They also confirmed the availability of essential support infrastructure, including a backup power generator.
‎
‎The facility is set to operate as a constituent university college under the University of Nairobi, with preparations at an advanced stage ahead of its official opening and admission of the inaugural cohort of students in August this year.
‎
‎The project marks the realization of Governor Simon Kachapin's manifesto pledge to revive the Keringet University project and bring quality, affordable higher education closer to the people of West Pokot. Once operational, Kapenguria University College will provide local students with greater access to university education while reducing the financial burden of studying outside the county.
‎
‎Beyond expanding educational opportunities, the institution is expected to become a centre for research, innovation, and skills development, driving economic growth and accelerating socio-economic transformation across West Pokot.

This evening, H.E. Simon Kachapin officially launched the Kamuino–Kamare Solar Street Lighting Project, funded by the County Government of West Pokot, in Mnangei Ward, Kapenguria Constituency.
This initiative marks another significant step towards improving security, supporting local businesses, and enhancing the quality of life for residents by lighting up our communities. The project will also boost economic activity by extending business hours and creating a safer environment for everyone.
The launch was attended by CECM Rebecca Kide, Chief Officer Abraham Lomongin, and Deputy Kapenguria Municipal Manager Lydia Tabot, among other county officials.

The County Government of West Pokot, through the Department of Lands, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Development, today hosted a delegation from the Africa Urban Lab (AUL) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen sustainable urban planning across the county.
The AUL team held a consultative meeting with the CEC Hon Martin Lottee , Chief Officers Amanule Samson and Abraham Lomongin, Director of Physical Planning Hamilton Bet, and the department's technical team. The discussions focused on the projected growth of urban centres in West Pokot and the need for proactive planning to ensure orderly, resilient, and inclusive urban development.
The engagement highlighted the importance of strategic urban expansion planning in:
Preventing the emergence of informal settlements and promoting well-planned towns.
Enhancing infrastructure development and service delivery in urban centres.
Preparing for Africa's projected population growth of approximately 800 million people by 2050.
Strengthening municipalities to improve own-source revenue collection and support sustainable local economic growth.
The meeting also explored a potential partnership between the County Government of West Pokot and Africa Urban Lab through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The proposed collaboration aims to provide technical support in advancing smart, sustainable, and inclusive urban development, positioning the county to effectively manage future urban growth while improving the quality of life for its residents.

‎A delegation from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), led by Resident Engineer Eng. Benjamin Anambo, paid a courtesy call on Governor Simon Kachapin to review progress on the 34-kilometer Kopasi River–Lomut–Sigor–Marich Pass road project.
‎
‎The major infrastructure undertaking currently stands at 50% completion. Beyond improving connectivity, the project is slated to deliver significant community benefits through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives—most notably a proposed 50-acre truck parking facility equipped with modern amenities. Three potential locations, including Kaa’Makaa and Runo, have already been identified for the facility.

‎Once complete, the road will link seamlessly with the Barpello–Tot road project, serving as an important bypass to divert heavy traffic from Nakuru. This improved network will spur urban expansion, streamline commerce, and boost county revenue collection.

‎The delegation meeting Governor Kachapin included representatives from the National Land Commission (NLC) and the contractor, Victoria Engineering Company Ltd, alongside senior county leadership, including Chief Officer for Lands & Physical Planning Abraham Pkiach and Chief of Staff Tyno Rotino.

H.E. Simon Kachapin, accompanied by Deputy Governor Robert Komolle and other County Government officials, today visited Roponywo Primary School ECDE, where he highlighted the County Government's commitment to strengthening Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) across West Pokot County.

During the visit, the Governor donated ECDE play kits to the school to enhance learning through play, recognizing the critical role of play-based learning in nurturing children's cognitive, physical, and social development during their formative years.

Governor Kachapin also commissioned a newly constructed ECDE classroom completed by the County Government of West Pokot during the 2024/2025 Financial Year. The modern classroom is expected to provide a safe, child-friendly, and conducive learning environment while increasing access to quality early childhood education.

Speaking during the event, the Governor stated that investing in education is a key pillar of sustainable development, noting that quality learning environments are essential for improving educational outcomes and preparing children for future success.

To further support learners and the surrounding community, Governor Kachapin pledged to grade and improve the school's playground, creating a better space for sports, recreation, and talent development.

The County Government of West Pokot continues to prioritize investments in ECDE infrastructure, learning resources, and child-friendly facilities as part of its broader agenda to provide every child with a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
