Today ,Dr. Paul Sanga ,Chief Officer for Agriculture and Cooperative Development, officially launched the countywide digital soil sampling exercise under the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP), implemented by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperative Development in partnership with KALRO.

The exercise will cover all 30 wards and aims to generate accurate, data-driven soil information to support evidence-based planning, appropriate fertilizer use, and climate-smart agriculture. Ahead of the rollout, agripreneurs and Ward Agricultural Officers were trained on digital soil sampling techniques, data collection, and quality assurance by KALRO experts.

The initiative is expected to improve productivity, reduce input costs, and promote sustainable land management, ultimately enhancing farmer livelihoods across the county.

Agricultural Field Days serve as vital platforms for farmers and agricultural stakeholders to exchange ideas, gain expert insights, and explore innovative and sustainable farming practices.

The Department of Agriculture and Cooperative Development, in partnership with NAVCDP, successfully held a Farmers’ Field Day at Chepkumia Dairies in Chepkumia Ward under the theme:
“Enhancing agricultural production, value addition, and market access through sustainable technologies and innovation to improve food security and rural livelihoods.”

These Field Days will continue to be held across all sub-counties, providing farmers with valuable opportunities to learn, network, and adopt modern farming techniques that boost productivity and income. We encourage all farmers to take full advantage of these events.

The County Government of Nandi remains steadfast in its commitment to collaborating with partners and stakeholders to empower our farmers with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to thrive in today’s evolving agricultural landscape.

Present during the event were the Chief Officer for Agriculture and Cooperative Development, Dr. Paul Sanga, and the Chief Officer for Trade, Industrialization and Tourism, CPA Carolyn Lagat.

The County Government of Nandi has noted rising cases of cherry hawking and theft, which exploit farmers and undermine the cooperative system. At the same time, farmers are being exposed to fake seedlings from unlicensed nurseries, threatening yields and quality.

To protect farmers and restore order in the sector, the County has taken firm action:
✅ Declared that all cherry trading outside licensed cooperatives and estates is illegal, with enforcement led by County Inspectors and the National Police Service.
✅ Enforced the Nandi County Coffee Nursery Management and Licensing Guidelines (2025) to eliminate fake nurseries and ensure only certified seedlings reach farmers.
✅ Partnered with the Coffee Directorate (AFA) to roll out EUDR farmer mapping and registration, making sure Nandi Coffee meets the new EU market requirements effective 2025.
✅ Launched the Geographical Indication (GI) Roadmap with NCCU to brand Nandi Coffee as a premium global origin, guaranteeing farmers better market access and protection from exploitation.

These actions reaffirm the County’s commitment to protect incomes, ensure transparency, and position as a competitive world-class brand.

The County Government of Nandi, through the Department of Agriculture, today held a sensitization forum with Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) on the upcoming rollout of the e-voucher vaccination program. We were honored to be joined by Dr. Menjo, the Presidential Advisor on Food Security, who passionately emphasized the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), highlighting agricultural transformation as one of its key pillars.

A major highlight of the forum was the planned vaccination against Foot and Mouth Disease, which will be implemented through farmer cooperative societies under NAVCDP. To ensure effective delivery, the Department has conducted due diligence on selected Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) across the county under the supervision of the NPOES.

Dr. Bittok, Director of Livestock Services, informed the MCAs that the vaccination will be conducted at the household level, alongside e-registration of cattle using muzzle technology. The program will be subsidized, with farmers paying only Ksh 50 per animal to their respective cooperative societies.

Speaking during the forum, the CECM for Agriculture and Cooperative Development, Dr. Kiplimo Araap Lagat, lauded the initiative, noting that it will make livestock vaccination more accessible, affordable, and well-coordinated for farmers in Nandi. We were also joined by the CECM for Lands and Natural Resources, CPA Hilary Serem, who underscored the importance of partnerships such as the donor-funded FLOCCA program, which links closely with agricultural development.

Through such partnerships, innovations, and farmer-centered programs, Nandi County continues to take bold steps towards strengthening food security, improving livestock health, and uplifting the livelihoods of our people.

The County Government of Nandi, through the Department of Agriculture and Cooperative Development in partnership with the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP), continues to champion farmer empowerment through targeted capacity-building initiatives.

Today, SACCO officials from Tinward SACCO, Kapchorua Agri-Business, Lepesa SACCO, Nandi Farmers SACCO, and Kolenge Farmers SACCO successfully concluded a two-day training on SACCO Operations Manuals and Financial Literacy.

This training aimed to strengthen the management and operational efficiency of farmer cooperatives, ensuring that SACCO leaders are well-equipped to guide members in improving their savings culture, accessing affordable credit, and investing in profitable ventures.

We encourage farmers across Nandi County to join SACCOs as a key step toward achieving financial independence and collective growth. Through SACCO membership, farmers can benefit from easier access to affordable loans, enhanced bargaining power, increased market opportunities, and the ability to pool resources for large-scale agricultural investments.

The County Government of Nandi remains committed to strengthening cooperative societies as vehicles for agricultural transformation and rural economic empowerment.

A team from the National Project Coordinating Unit (NAVCDP–Nairobi) visited Nandi County to support the ongoing planning and sensitization efforts for the upcoming e-voucher vaccination program, set to roll out in September. This vaccination campaign will be implemented through cooperative societies that were carefully pre-selected based on criteria established by the World Bank.

Benchmarking of these Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) has already been successfully conducted across all six sub-counties of Nandi. The identified FPOs are actively engaged in the county’s prioritized value chains and have submitted proposals seeking funding and support for the vaccination campaign. The National Project Oversight Entities (NPOEs) will review and evaluate these proposals to ensure successful program implementation.

Nandi County, through its Department of Agriculture and Cooperative Development, in collaboration with the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP), is set to roll out an e‑voucher-based livestock vaccination program starting September, 2025.
The program will provide livestock farmers with digital vouchers to access subsidized Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccines, leveraging mobile payment systems, digital animal identification, and real-time data tracking. This innovative approach aims to improve service efficiency, enhance disease surveillance, and support sustainable livestock health management.

Targeting 290,542 cattle across all six sub-counties, the initiative aligns with the national government's strategy to digitize animal health services and improve vaccine accessibility. Implementation will be done in close collaboration with Farmer-Producer Organizations (FPOs) to ensure effective outreach and farmer engagement.
To pave the way for a successful rollout, stakeholder sensitization meetings were conducted in Mosop, Nandi Hills, Aldai, and Chesumei sub-counties, bringing together local administrators, National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), farmers' representatives, Sub-County heads, veterinary officers, and representatives from FPOs. The meetings aimed to raise awareness, clarify program procedures, and ensure community buy-in and preparedness.
