No TTC Intake for 2025 KCSE Candidates
The September 2026 intake into Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) for Primary Teacher Education will only be open to teachers upgrading from P1 Certificate to Diploma level. This means that the 2025 KCSE candidates will not be admitted into TTCs for primary education courses during this intake period.
According to the Ministry of Education, the decision was made because there are already many students currently training in TTCs and thousands of trained teachers who have graduated but are yet to secure employment. The government believes that continuing to admit large numbers of new trainees would further flood the job market and increase unemployment among teachers. Reports indicate that the suspension of TTC intake for new KCSE candidates could last for about three years.
Students who had plans of joining TTCs are therefore encouraged to remain calm and start exploring other career opportunities in TVET institutions, and other professional courses that match their passion and strengths. Education remains important, and success is still possible through many different career paths.
