The Security Sector Reform (SSR) and Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Level 2 Course is underway at the Peace and Conflict Studies School, bringing together 23 participants from Botswana, Comoros, Ethiopia, France, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Switzerland, Tunisia and Zambia for an 8-day learning experience focused on strengthening peace and security practice. 🌍🤝

The course provides participants with practical knowledge and perspectives to better understand and address complex security challenges, while strengthening their capacity to support effective security sector transformation, sustainable reintegration and lasting peace in conflict-affected and transitioning societies.

Speaking during the opening, Dr Steve Tharakan, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Swiss🇨🇭 Embassy, highlighted the importance of building professional capacity in SSR and DDR as a key investment in sustainable peace and stability.

The diverse participation reflects the value of international collaboration in developing stronger, more effective approaches to peacebuilding and security governance. 🌍✨

The United Nations Military Observer Course (UNMOC) has officially come to a close after an impactful period of intensive learning, training and exchange.

The course brought together 24 participants from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Bangladesh, Sierra Leone, Angola, Tanzania and Sri Lanka, all focused on strengthening their knowledge and skills to effectively serve as Military Observers in UN Peace Operations.

The closing ceremony was graced by His Excellency Andrew Barnes, High Commissioner of Australia to Kenya, who underscored the value of the skills gained throughout the course, emphasizing that the right training, knowledge and support equips Military Observers to navigate complex peace operations, make informed decisions and deliver meaningful impact in the field.

The course provided participants with practical knowledge and a deeper understanding of the role of Military Observers, equipping them to contribute effectively to peace and security efforts in missions around the world. 📚🌍

Our Director, Major General C L Mwazighe, hosted the Austria Defence Attaché, Colonel Stefan Stocklauser, for a strategic engagement focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between the Centre and Austria. 🇰🇪🇦🇹

The discussions explored opportunities to advance defence cooperation, build on existing areas of collaboration, and identify areas for improvement and greater impact. Both sides also considered avenues to further strengthen joint initiatives and capacity-building efforts in support of peace and security. 🌍

The engagement reaffirmed a shared commitment to deepening cooperation and building a stronger, more impactful partnership for the future. 🤝✨

The International Peace Support Training Centre successfully hosted a two-day policy roundtable, “Military Missions in African Peacemaking: Adapting to a Changed World,” convened in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.

The roundtable brought together policymakers, practitioners, African Union and regional mechanism representatives, defence and security officials, researchers and policy experts from across West Africa, the Sahel and beyond.

Discussions focused on defining practical criteria for legitimate, effective and sustainable military interventions that can contribute to lasting peace and security in Africa amid a changing global order.

The Director IPSTC, Major General C Mwazighe, today received the German Defence Attaché, Lt Col (GS) Michael Lux, for discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and exploring new areas of partnership.

Germany has been a longstanding and valued partner of IPSTC since its establishment, contributing to the Centre’s efforts in advancing peace support training and capacity building.

The meeting was also attended by Colonel Markus Schefer (IPSTC) and Petty Officer Tom von Wiegen (Germany).

The Centre hosted a delegation from the Zimbabwe Staff College, Course 39, on a study visit, led by Chief Instructor Colonel William Mangwiro and accompanied by the Zimbabwe Defence Attaché to Kenya, Brigadier General David Moyo.

The visit featured insightful discussions on the critical nexus between economic development and national security, highlighting the role of peace support training in creating stable environments that enable sustainable growth.

The engagement also provided a valuable platform for exchanging best practices, strengthening professional collaboration, and fostering mutual learning between the two institutions.

The Heavy Engineering Equipment/Explosive Hazard Awareness Training (Training of Trainers) Course is underway, equipping participants with the specialized knowledge and practical skills needed to safely operate heavy engineering equipment while enhancing awareness and management of explosive hazards.

🎯 More than just training, the course is about building a pool of capable trainers who can transfer critical knowledge, strengthen safety practices and multiply impact across peace support operations.

As part of its commitment to excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement, the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC), following its attainment of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) certification in 2024, conducted a Top Management Awareness Briefing on the Quality Management System.

The briefing aimed to deepen understanding of the core principles of quality management, highlight the importance of implementing and sustaining a QMS based on the ISO 9000 family of standards, and reinforce the critical leadership role of top management in establishing, maintaining, and continually improving the QMS.

The session brought together Heads of Departments and Sections, reaffirming IPSTC's collective commitment to fostering a culture of quality and delivering excellence across all its operations.
