Two CECMs joined us for the LCOY Mt. Kenya Regional Consultation.
We were pleased to have Esther Muthoni Ndung'u, CECM for Gender, Youth, Sports and Social Services in Nyeri County, and Ms. Leah Njeri, CECM for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change in Laikipia County, with us.
In their remarks, they spoke passionately about their commitment to supporting young people to take an active role in climate action. They also shared some of the opportunities available to young people within their respective counties and encouraged them to take advantage of these spaces.
Most importantly, they affirmed their commitment to support taking forward the recommendations from this LCOY process and presenting them to the Governors, both at the regional level and through the Council of Governors, so that young people's priorities can find their way into county decisions.
This is important because our governors and county governments have a major role to play in addressing climate change. They are closest to communities and have the resources and structures needed to turn climate commitments into action. Programmes such as FLLoCA also provide an important opportunity to finance locally led climate action.
We are encouraged to see county leadership listening to young people and willing to take their recommendations forward. Now, we must keep the conversation going and turn these commitments into action.
