Kisumu County Assembly has been recognised as the best-performing County Assembly in Nyanza region in the category of Transparency and Access to Information at the 9th Edition of the Africa Champions Awards International Gala, 2026 held at Argyle Hotel, Nairobi.
At the same event, Kajulu MCA Hon. Benson Adega was fetted as the best Community Service and Development Champion and Member of County Assembly of the year, 2026 following his outstanding performance in legislation and representation.
The recognition underscores the Assembly's commitment to promoting openness, accountability and public access to information on its operations, legislative processes and service to the people of Kisumu County.
Transparency and access to information are key pillars of good governance, enabling citizens to remain informed about decisions affecting their lives and participate meaningfully in the affairs of their county.
The achievement highlights the importance of strengthening communication between the Assembly and the public through timely dissemination of information, public participation forums and accessible channels of engagement, which the management continues to build.
Apart from his individual awards, Hon. Adega received the Assembly's certificate of recognition on behalf of the Speaker Hon. Elisha Oraro.
Hon. Adega continues to represent the people of Kajulu with dedication and commitment, proactively and articulately raising issues affecting his Ward in the floor of the House and with other relevant government institutions, hence earning these coveted awards.
"This recognition reminds me that leadership is not just about holding an office, but about making a meaningful impact on the lives of those you represent," Hon. Adega said after receiving the awards.
Among those who were also feted at the event include Kakamega Governor H.E. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA and other transformative leaders in public service and private sector.
The Assembly remains encouraged to sustain these efforts and uphold the principles of openness, accountability and inclusive governance in service to the people of Kisumu County.
