The County Assembly of Kisumu Speaker, Hon. Elisha Oraro today hosted a delegation from Mukindye Division Urban leaders, Kampala City, Uganda. The visiting leaders, made up of Councillors, Speaker and Mayor had an opportunity to gain insights and experiences about Kenya's devolution system of governance and specifically county governments and the leadership roles of both the executive, Assembly and City/Municipal management. Key areas included the Assembly business, legislation, oversight and representation, Urban development, solid waste management, service delivery amongst others.

The County Assembly of Kisumu has set up a standout exhibition booth at the ongoing Kisumu A.S.K. show, which opened its doors to exhibitors and members of the public on 22.7.2026 at the Mamboleo showground.

The County Assembly stand has been widely recognized for its excellence in engaging the public on legislation, representation and oversight tied to promoting Climate- Smart Agriculture and trade.

The judges who visited the stand were drawn to its informative layout and interactive approach, ranking it the best County Assembly stand at the show.

Judges and visitors alike highlighted the Assembly’s role in facilitating dialogue on how policy frameworks can support climate‑smart innovation and investment in agricultureβ€”making it one of the most impactful stands at the show .

The Assembly has made tremendous steps aimed at improving food security and trade in the County by passing various legislations such as Kisumu County Fisheries and Aquaculture Act, 2019, Kisumu County Crop Act, 2019 and Kisumu County Enterprise Fund Act, 2018.

The Kisumu County Agriculture Facilities Improvement Financing Act, 2023, the Kisumu County Agriculture Sector Coordination Mechanism (KASCOM) Act, 2023 and the Kisumu County Cess Act, 2024 further seek to transform the management as well as financing of the critical agriculture sector in the county.

We wish to extend sincere appreciation to all stakeholders who participated in the yesterday's public participation exercise on the Kisumu County Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare Bill, 2026 held at Mama Grace Onyango Social Hall.

We are especially grateful to the various Civil Society Organizations whose technical support, advocacy and mobilization efforts greatly contributed to the success of this important engagement. Your commitment to promoting inclusive governance and meaningful public participation continues to strengthen our legislative process.

In this regard, we wish to recognize NAYA, Hope for the Vulnerable in our Community (HOVUC), Cheshire Disabilities Services Kenya, Vijana Usawa CBO, Talanta Africa, AYAN, Women and Girls with Disabilities in AfricDreaM and Dreams Redefined CBO.
