The WASPA Games were officially flagged off today at Kericho Teachers Training College in Kericho County, ahead of the start of various sporting activities scheduled to begin tomorrow.

The Chief Guest, H.E. Dr. Eric Kipkoech Mutai, Governor of Kericho County, was represented at the event by the County Executive Committee Member for Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Jackson Rop, who graced the occasion.

WASPA Chairman and KIWASCO Managing Director, Mr. Thomas Odongo, led a delegation comprising stakeholders from the water and sanitation sector, sponsors and other development partners.

Speaking during the occasion, the Chief Guest emphasized the importance of sustainable water supply, environmental conservation and sanitation, reaffirming the commitment of water service providers to delivering quality, reliable and sustainable water services to citizens across the Country.

Mr. Odongo also highlighted the importance of last-mile water connections, urging more households to connect to reliable water services. He further underscored the need for environmental sustainability and responsible management of water resources.

“The WASPA Games are not only about competition; they are also an opportunity to strengthen teamwork, collaboration, networking and unity among water and sanitation service providers across Kenya,” said Mr. Odongo.

As part of the day's activities, the delegation participated in a tree-planting exercise within the college compound. The initiative forms part of WASPA's commitment to environmental sustainability and supports the national target of growing 15 billion trees by 2032 to promote environmental conservation.
