The sensitisation programme combined practical demonstrations at the AIC Township intersection with a theory session held at a Kitui hotel.

Speaking during the forum, Director Benard Mulevu from the County Department of Transport & Boda Boda, who represented the Chief Officer, Transport & Boda Boda, underscored the importance of public awareness in ensuring that the new infrastructure achieves its intended purpose .

The County Government has called on motorists, boda boda riders, pedestrians and other road users to familiarise themselves with the new traffic signals and cooperate with authorities as the system becomes fully operational.

The message from the sensitisation forum was clear: *safer roads begin with informed and responsible road users.*

_Thursday, July 23, 2026_

The County Government of Kitui has stepped up efforts to improve road safety and ease traffic congestion in Kitui town following the training of a technical team on the operation and maintenance of newly installed traffic lights at the AIC Kitui Township intersection.

The training conducted by the integrated contractor responsible for the installation of the traffic lights, brought together technical officers from the Ministry of Roads, Public Works and Transport, Kitui Municipality, County Enforcement and Kitui Traffic Police Officers.

The programme comprised both theoretical and practical sessions. The theory sessions were held at a hotel in Kitui, where participants were taken through the technical aspects of the traffic lights, including their operation, traffic flow management, safety considerations and the roles of different stakeholders in ensuring the system functions effectively.

The practical component of the training was conducted at the Kitui Intersection, providing participants with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience on the installed traffic lights. The practical session enabled the team to understand the operation of the traffic signal, functionality of the installed lights, routine monitoring, basic troubleshooting and maintenance procedures.

The training comes as the County intensifies efforts to modernise traffic management and improve the movement of motorists and pedestrians across the town.

Speaking during the training on behalf of the Chief for Transport and Boda Boda Peter Ketonya Musya, the Director Administration- Benard Mulevu noted that the initiative demonstrates the County Government's commitment to adopting modern solutions that enhance road safety and improve the quality of urban infrastructure.
"The installation of these traffic lights is an important step in improving traffic management within Kitui town. By training our technical team, we are ensuring that the system is properly operated and maintained to deliver the intended benefits to all the road users" he added.

The training is part of broader efforts by the County Government to make Kitui town safer, more accessible and better organised.

*Revolutionizing the Boda Boda Industry Through Digital Boda Boda Management System: County Government and NTSA Lead the Way*

_Friday, May 15, 2026_

In a bold and transformative move, the County Government of Kitui, in partnership with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), has officially launched the rollout of a modern Boda Boda Management System initiative aimed at improving road safety, enhancing regulation and promoting professionalism within the boda boda sector.

Speaking during the launch held at Kitui Municipality Board room, the Chief Officer in charge of Transport and Boda Boda Peter Ketonya Musya described the initiative as a major milestone in streamlining the rapidly growing boda boda industry while creating a safer and more organized transport environment for both riders and passengers.

“For many years, the boda boda sector has operated informally despite supporting thousands of livelihoods. Through this partnership with NTSA, we are creating order, accountability, and opportunities for riders,” said the Chief Officer.

The digital management system will support the registration of boda boda operators, including rider identification, SACCO affiliation, motorcycle ownership, operating routes, and safety compliance.

NTSA officials have underscored the importance of collaboration between National and County governments in addressing challenges within the transport sector. They have noted that the management system will help improve data collection, support enforcement of traffic laws and promote responsible riding practices.

The Boda boda leaders have welcomed the move noting that through the partnership, and the power of data, the future of the Boda boda sector is being rewritten.

The County Government has reiterated its commitment to working closely with rider associations, SACCOs, security agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure the success of the program.

The one week public sensitization campaigns across the County will commence on Monday 18th May, 2026 to encourage all operators to participate in the exercise.

Also present at the event was the Director Administration Benard Mulevu.

The County Government of Kitui through Department of Transport and Boda Boda has rolled out a comprehensive verification and validation exercise targeting boda boda operators across the County in a move aimed at enhancing safety, improving service delivery, and strengthening regulation within the transport sector.

The exercise seeks to establish an accurate database of boda boda riders operating within the County through the collection and verification of biodata, including identification details, contacts, stage locations, licensed and unlicensed operators.

While he was addressing the Boda Boda executive on behalf of the Chief Officer for Transport and Boda Boda, the Director- Administration Benard Mulevu noted that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote order, accountability, and security in the Boda Boda industry, which plays a critical role in providing affordable and convenient transport services to residents.

"The Boda Boda sector is an important pillar of our local economy, providing employment opportunities to thousands of young people. Through this exercise, we want to ensure that operators are properly registered, identifiable, and supported to operate safely and professionally," said the Director.
