It was a great honor for Eco Dada Director to be among the proud graduates during the Leadership and Governance Graduation Ceremony, celebrating the successful completion of a transformative Leadership and Governance Training Programme by 60 dedicated community leaders.

The programme, organized by the Northern Rangelands Trust(NRT) with generous support from the Embassy of Denmark in Kenya and Somalia, brought together leaders from Community Conservancies, Community Forest Associations (CFAs), Beach Management Units (BMUs), women's groups, youth organizations, and other community institutions. Through intensive training, participants were equipped with practical leadership, governance, accountability, conflict resolution, and community engagement skills that will strengthen local institutions and promote sustainable development across our communities.

At Eco Dada, we firmly believe that empowered leaders create empowered communities. This training has not only enhanced our leadership capacity but has also reinforced our commitment to championing environmental conservation, women's empowerment, climate resilience, community participation, and the implementation of Nature-based Solutions that protect our ecosystems while improving livelihoods.

As graduates, we leave this programme inspired, better equipped, and more determined to serve our communities with integrity, transparency, inclusivity, and purpose. The knowledge, networks, and experiences gained throughout this journey will have a lasting impact as we work together to build resilient, peaceful, and sustainable communities.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all 60 graduates for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to becoming agents of positive change. Your achievement is not only a personal milestone but also an investment in the future of our communities.

Mangroves thrive when people work together.

For four inspiring days in Lamu, conversations, partnerships and action centered on one of our greatest natural treasures—mangrove ecosystems.

From 23–26 July 2026, Lamu County hosted the Global Mangrove Alliance (GMA) Kenya Chapter Quarter 2 Meeting, the National Mangrove Dialogue, the National Mangroves Stakeholder Forum, and the national celebrations of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem 2026. These engagements united government institutions, coastal communities, researchers, civil society organizations, development partners and the private sector to share knowledge, strengthen collaboration and advance practical solutions for the conservation and sustainable management of Kenya's mangroves.

Eco Dada was proud to participate in these important conversations, engaging with diverse stakeholders, exchanging ideas, building meaningful partnerships and learning from communities at the forefront of mangrove restoration and conservation.

The biggest takeaway from Lamu is simple yet powerful: protecting mangroves is not just about restoring forests—it is about bringing people together. Strong partnerships create resilient ecosystems, thriving coastal livelihoods and a more climate-resilient future for generations to come.

Eco Dada Participates in Kenya's 2026 World Mangrove Day Celebrations in Lamu

Eco Dada proudly joined the nation in commemorating the 2026 International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem at Majengo Grounds, Lamu County, alongside government leaders, conservation agencies, development partners, and local communities.

The event was led by the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, who emphasized the critical role of Kenya's mangrove forests in protecting coastlines, conserving biodiversity, supporting coastal livelihoods, and combating climate change through blue carbon. She noted that Lamu County hosts nearly 61% of Kenya's mangrove forests, making it central to the country's conservation and blue economy efforts.

The celebrations also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to the campaign, highlighted successful community-led restoration initiatives, and showcased the Lamu Blue Carbon Project, which aims to restore approximately 4,000 hectares of mangrove forests while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

At Eco Dada, we believe that protecting mangroves means protecting our environment, strengthening community livelihoods, and securing a sustainable future. We remain committed to working with communities and partners to promote environmental conservation, climate resilience, and nature-based solutions across Lamu and beyond.

Stepping into the mud to protect what sustains us.

On 23rd July 2026, Eco Dada proudly joined partners in commemorating the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem at Mkokoni, Kiunga Marine National Reserve, Lamu County.

The Mud Bath (MAD BATH) was more than an activity—it was a symbol of commitment, resilience, and collective action. Every muddy step, every planted mangrove, and every volunteer's effort contributes to restoring coastal ecosystems, protecting biodiversity, strengthening climate resilience, and securing livelihoods for future generations.

Together, we restore. Together, we protect. Together, we grow.

On 8th July 2026, Eco Dada Attended a Lamu Youth Alliance, Triple Benefit Project supported by WWF-Kenya, convened a dialogue meeting bringing together members of the FLLoCA County Planning Committee and representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The meeting aimed to provide updates on the status of FLLoCA projects, discuss the 2026 implementation plan, and identify opportunities for collaboration in creating community awareness and strengthening locally led climate action.

The meeting commenced with a presentation by Lamu Youth Alliance highlighting the social accountability, communication, and advocacy initiatives undertaken under the Triple Benefit Project. The presentation showcased capacity-building trainings conducted for Ward Climate Change Planning Committees (WCCPCs) in Mkomani, Hindi, and Shela Wards, as well as community awareness campaigns aimed at strengthening public participation, transparency, and accountability in FLLoCA implementation.

A representative from the Lamu County Government subsequently presented the progress made in implementing FLLoCA projects, outlining key achievements, implementation challenges, and the proposed draft work plan for *Stage Three* of the programme. The presentation also highlighted the priority intervention areas and the fundamental principles guiding the FLLoCA programme in Lamu County.

The dialogue provided an open platform for constructive engagement between government and civil society stakeholders. CSO representatives raised questions and shared observations regarding project implementation, community participation, and future priorities. The County Government team responded comprehensively to the issues raised, fostering a shared understanding of the programme and reinforcing the importance of collaboration in ensuring effective implementation of FLLoCA initiatives.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to strengthen partnerships between the County Government, Civil Society Organizations, and community structures to enhance awareness, promote accountability, and support the successful implementation of FLLoCA projects across Lamu County.

Leadership is not about holding a position—it is about creating lasting impact.

Eco Dada was honored to participate in a four-day Leadership and Governance Training (Modules 1 & 2) organized by Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT), bringing together community leaders from Lamu, Tana River, and Garissa counties to strengthen leadership, governance, and community resilience.

The training offered a valuable opportunity to learn, collaborate, and exchange experiences while building practical skills in leadership, governance, institutional management, and Nature-based Solutions (NbS). These skills will empower our team to champion environmental conservation, strengthen community institutions, and promote sustainable development initiatives that improve livelihoods while safeguarding our natural resources.

At Eco Dada, we believe that investing in leadership is investing in stronger communities. Every lesson learned, every idea shared, and every partnership built brings us one step closer to creating resilient communities where young people and women lead environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable development.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) for facilitating this transformative learning experience and to the Royal Danish Embassy for supporting initiatives that empower local leaders to become agents of positive change.
