*GOVERNOR TIMAMY HOSTS PRESIDENT RUTO AS 20,189 LAMU RESIDENTS RECEIVE TITLE DEEDS*

Governor Issa Abdalla Timamy hosted President William Ruto in Mokowe, Lamu County, where 20,189 title deeds were handed over to residents, as part of the Government’s wider programme to issue 300,000 ownership documents across the Coast.

The beneficiaries include residents of Ashuwei, Mvundeni, Rubu, Mwambore and Simambae community lands, where five community land title deeds were issued, alongside individual title deeds for residents of Shanga/Ishakani, Muhamarani, Lake Amu and Baharini settlement schemes.

Governor Timamy welcomed the milestone, noting that secure land ownership is critical to giving families peace of mind, protecting their investments and unlocking the economic value of land.

The issuance also represents an important step in addressing longstanding land ownership challenges and strengthening confidence in Lamu’s development future.

*GOVERNOR TIMAMY WELCOMES DANGOTE REFINERY GROUND BREAKING IN LAMU*

Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, EGH, OGW, has welcomed the groundbreaking of the Dangote East Africa Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Special Economic Zone in Lamu, describing the landmark investment as a major opportunity for the people of Lamu County.

Governor Timamy said the KSh2.2 trillion project will create jobs, stimulate local businesses, strengthen infrastructure and unlock new opportunities for Lamu youth and entrepreneurs.

He noted that the investment will accelerate Lamu’s transformation into a major industrial hub and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring local residents benefit directly from the project.

The groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by President William Ruto and witnessed by Presidents Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, Romuald Wadagni of Benin and Jean-Lucien Savi de Tové of Togo, as well as Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and other high-level African delegations.

Governor Issa Timamy today inspected preparations at Lamu Port, the venue for tomorrow’s groundbreaking ceremony of a landmark oil refinery project valued at over KSh2 trillion.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 30 September 2026, in Lamu County with President William Ruto expected to attend.

*GOVERNOR TIMAMY CHAIRS MULTI-AGENCY MEETING ON EL NIÑO PREPAREDNESS*

Lamu Governor H.E. Issa Abdalla Timamy, EGH, chaired a multi-agency meeting to strengthen the county’s preparedness and response measures ahead of the anticipated El Niño rains.

The meeting brought together county and national government agencies to enhance coordination, early warning, emergency response and protection of lives and property.

Governor Timamy was joined by Deputy Governor H.E. Dr. Mbarak Mohamed Mbarak and Lamu County Commissioner Stephen Sangolo, alongside representatives from various agencies.

Governor Timamy said multi-agency coordination and emergency response operations shall be undertaken from the Lamu County Emergency Operations Centre based in Hindi, which will serve as the central coordination point.

Deputy Governor Dr. Mbarak urged residents to remain alert and follow official weather and safety advisories. He said residents in flood-prone areas should move to safer, higher ground when necessary. In case of an emergency, residents should call 0714 888889.

Lamu Beach Soccer Teams Flagged Off for National Trials

Lamu Deputy Governor Dr. Mbarak Bahajaj has flagged off three beach soccer teams from Lamu County to participate in the national beach soccer trials scheduled for tomorrow in Malindi.

The teams:—Kiwayuu, Real Madrid Tore and Lamu United were flagged off at the Lamu County Headquarters in Mokowe.

Speaking during the flagging-off ceremony, Dr. Bahajaj challenged the players to maintain discipline, teamwork and commitment as they represent Lamu County at the national trials.

He noted that Lamu County has abundant sporting talent among its youth but said indiscipline continues to hinder many young people from achieving their full potential.

The Deputy Governor urged the teams to conduct themselves well, give their best and uphold the name of Lamu County throughout the trials.

Dr. Bahajaj also pledged that, if elected Governor of Lamu County in the coming General Election, he would facilitate the construction of two beach soccer pitches in Wiyoni and Kiwayuu to provide young people with facilities to nurture and develop their talent.

He said the initiative would help promote beach soccer and create more opportunities for talented youth across the county.

The flagging off ceremony was attended by the County Executive Committee Member for Education, Technology, Gender, Youth Affairs, Sports, Community Development and Social Services, Sebastian Owanga,Chief Officer Hafswa Difini, and KFA Chairman, Lamu County, Sultan Swaleh, among others.

KIWAYU FESTIVAL WINNERS REWARDED AS TWO-DAY CELEBRATION ENDS

The Kiwayu Cultural Festival concluded on a high note with participants across various competitions recognized and rewarded for their efforts.

The prize-giving ceremony capped two days of cultural, sporting and community activities held on 28th and 29th August 2026. Cash prizes were awarded to successful competitors, while the festival’s fish auction also generated income for local fishermen.

Organized by the Lamu County Government in collaboration with the Kiwayu community, the festival received support from Pembe Flour Mill, Captain Andy’s and NRT.

Governor Issa Timamy attended the ceremony accompanied by Deputy Governor Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj, MP for Matuga Constituency, Hon. Kassim Tandaza, CECMs and Chief Officers.

KIWAYU WATERS COME ALIVE IN EXCITING SWIMMING COMPETITION

Kiwayu’s waters became a centre of excitement as swimmers took part in a competitive swimming event during the Kiwayu Cultural Festival.
