Through a partnership with the University of Nairobi (UoN), Makueni County will pilot the application of silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor technology to optimise the capacity and performance of renewable energy infrastructure in the healthcare and water sectors. The initiative is expected to improve the energy conversion efficiency of existing infrastructure by up to 30 per cent.

The pilot was announced on Wednesday during a consultative meeting between county officials and the University of Nairobi. It will be implemented under the Compound Semiconductor-Enabled Renewable Energy Systems for Powering Critical Buildings in Africa project, led by UoN’s Department of Physics.

Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. welcomed the initiative, noting that it will support technology and skills transfer to county staff while significantly reducing electricity costs and stabilize power for facilities offering critical services to the residents of Makueni.

Graced the 4th Edition of Kisia Nzuki TOURNAMENT at Kitandini Stadium. Sports is the magnet that brings our communities together; to make merry, to socialize, to share and to chat a common path.
We are committed to not only build top talent, but also to use the power of sports to create many more avenues to strengthen our social and moral fabric among our young people. We will not complete this course on our own; rather, we must work together as a team.

Building skills needed to grow economies and star employment. At Makueni County, we run a unique program dubbed Ujuzi Teke Teke: a rapid skills transfer program under which young unskilled men and women are exposed to on-job training under the supervision of master craftsmen for a period of upto 6 months. The program promotes acquisition of most sought after skills globally. Upon graduation, beneficiaries are further equipped with tools of trade to Kickstart their own business. Further, beneficiaries are assesed and issued with certification of competence by National Industrial Training Authority. This program is cognizant of the reality that a huge population of young people are unable to join college after either primary or secondary education due to poverty. Today, a total of 97 graduants benefited.
