On 4th June 2026, CSI Kenya convened an engagement forum bringing together inter-community youth at Louenik, Sosian Ward in Laikipia North Sub-County. The forum forms part of a series of strategic pre-election interventions being implemented under the Resilient Peace and Stability Program of Strengthening community resilience and social cohesion for peaceful elections in Samburu and Laikipia, with the support of the Royal Danish Embassy in Kenya Embassy of Denmark in Kenya and Somalia, through our National and longstanding partner Act Change Transform
Recognizing the central role that young people play in shaping the political landscape and peace, the forum intentionally placed youth at the forefront of promoting peaceful coexistence, social cohesion, and issue-based politics. Participants were drawn from diverse communities including the Pokot, Turkana, Kikuyu, and Somali communities, reflecting our inclusive strategy on peaceful 2027 general elections.
Discussions focused on the need to strongly discourage divisive tribal politics that have historically fueled tensions, weakened social cohesion, and undermined trust among communities. The forum therefore, emphasized on objective politics anchored on ideas, policies, and the aspirations of pastoral citizens rather than ethnic politics in Laikipia North.
One of the key resolutions from the meeting was the commitment to convene a follow-up forum bringing together youth leaders, local community leaders, and political aspirants from various political cadres. The objective will be to further strengthen commitments toward issue-focused campaigns, promote responsible political leadership, and collectively reject tribal politics and prevent all forms of electoral violence.
CSI Kenya is committed to the peaceful Laikipia and is endeavoured to continue addressing grassroots protracted challenges, particularly on electoral violence and resource-based conflict.
