Residents of Igembe North have announced plans to hold three days of prayer and fasting next month in support of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, whom they credit with helping vulnerable families across Meru County through the Operation Okolea initiative.

The residents claim that the initiative has benefited many disadvantaged households, including families struggling to pay school fees for their children. They say the assistance has provided relief to people facing financial difficulties and has helped some children continue with their education.

The residents criticized Mutuma M’ethingia, alleging that his administration has not provided the support they expected. They also expressed anger towards Meru leaders whom they accuse of contributing more than 100 million shillings towards efforts to remove Kawira Mwangaza from office.

The residents further declared that they intend to make their views known during the 2027 General Election, warning that leaders they believe have failed to serve the community may face opposition at the ballot.

Residents of Kiririro in Njia Ward have appealed to their MCA, Mwenda Ali, and Mutuma M’ethingia to address the challenges facing their community, particularly the poor state of roads as the rainy season approaches.

The residents say the deteriorating roads have disrupted business activities and made movement difficult for pedestrians and travelers. They fear that continued rainfall could worsen the situation, making it even harder for residents to access essential services and transport their goods.

In addition to the road concerns, the residents have raised complaints over shortages of medicine in local health facilities and inadequate access to water. They are calling on their elected leaders and the county government to intervene by repairing the roads, ensuring hospitals are adequately stocked with essential medicines, and improving water access.

Boda boda operators from Muriri in Tigania East, Meru County, have come out to criticize the national government over the rising cost of fuel, saying the increase has made it increasingly difficult for them to sustain their businesses.

The operators claim that the high fuel prices have placed them under financial pressure, as passengers are reluctant to accept higher fares despite the rising cost of operations. They say they are caught between the need to cover their daily expenses and the financial challenges facing their customers.

The boda boda operators further argue that rising fuel prices have affected the wider economy, contributing to an increase in the cost of living and making essential goods and services more expensive for ordinary Kenyans.

They are now calling on the national government to address the rising cost of fuel and consider measures that would ease the financial burden on transport operators and other citizens struggling with the increasing cost of living.
