Once complete, the project will enhance access to clean and safe water for residents and key institutions including Mgange Dawida Model Health Centre and Mwangea Comprehensive School, among other social amenities.

This intervention underscores the County Government’s commitment to improving access to clean and potable water for all residents.

Among works set to be implemented include securing the site with a chain link perimeter fencing and constructing of a dedicated holding bay for livestock. To ensure high hygiene standards, the work includes full plumbing, drainage, installation of a water tower and supplying and installation of a plastic tank to the facility. The interior will be completely upgraded with professional floor and wall finishes, hanging rails for processing, and new concrete worktables.

Speaking at the site today, Taita Sub Countu Veterinary Officer Dr. Nasra Mwavula noted that by investing in infrastructure upgrade, the Government is ensuring that livestock farmers have better facilities and meat consumers receive the highest quality products with proper consideration on health standards.

The project that will commence in a weeks time is expected to be completed in 4 weeks time and will ease the hustle for meat traders who have to travel for over 5KM to access slaughterhouse services in Mgange. The planned upgrades will transform the facility into a modern, hygienic hub for meat processing.

Grading works are currently ongoing along the Kisangarinyi–Mwalashi–Mghwala-Ivunyi road in Mwanda Location.

This activity forms part of the broader rehabilitation works, whose scope includes bush clearing, slab installation, climate change mitigation measures, and other cross-cutting interventions aimed at enhancing sustainability and resilience.

Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly improve accessibility to Upper Njawuli villages, opening up key access routes to Vuria ECDE, Ndumbinyi ECDE, Mghwala, and Shashame townships.

This initiative is one of several road development projects being implemented under the leadership of Governor Andrew Mwadime Wakujaa across the ward and the County at large.

The project implementation team, comprising Sub-County Roads Officers, the Project Management Committee (PMC), the Area Ward Administrator, and the Ward Office Manager, conducted a site visit today to monitor progress and ensure adherence to implementation standards.

We convened a community engagement meeting featuring users of the Lolo–Ndau Water Project which serves a section of Mgange Dawida residents to discuss challenges facing the project and chart a way forward.

The meeting, initiated by the Ward Administrator and the Sub-County Water Officer, focused on the sustainable use of the water resource. We sensitized the users on the importance of conservation, transparency, and accountability to ensure they discharge their responsibilities in harmony.

Participants agreed that the operation of the community water project is a collective responsibility and called on every user to play their role effectively.

During the meeting, users elected their representatives to the project’s operational committee. The committee will undergo training by the Taita Sub-County Water Officer on best practices for sustainable water management.

Residents were also cautioned against rampant bush fires affecting nearby forests, which threaten to drive some plant and animal species to extinction.

The meeting was facilitated by Area Assistant Chief Erick Kera, Ward Administrator Dickson Ngati, and Taita Sub-County Water Officer Wilbard Chombo.

We have successfully conducted feasibility studies for the Majhughu and Mozo/Funju water projects in Njawuli and Mwaroko sub-locations, respectively. The two projects have been prioritized for implementation in the 2025–2026 financial year as part of the County Government’s commitment to ensuring residents access clean and safe water as close to their households as possible.

During the exercise, the team visited key project sites, including intake points, proposed storage tank locations, and community water points. We also held consultative discussions with stakeholders to identify the challenges affecting the projects and explore sustainable solutions.

The activities were led by the Wundanyi Sub-County Water Officer, Mr. Wilbard Chombo, accompanied by a team of technicians, Ward Administrator Dickson Ngati, and Ward Office Manager Thomas Mwanyalo. The team is expected to return to conduct detailed surveys to guide project design and subsequent implementation works.

Wundanyi Sub-County Marks Mashujaa Day Celebrations at Ndumbinyi Grounds, Njawuli sub location

Wundanyi Sub-County held its Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ndumbinyi playground in Njawuli, an event dedicated to honoring heroes and heroines from all walks of life, including fallen freedom fighters who sacrificed for Kenya’s self-rule and liberation from colonial oppression.

The celebration paid special tribute to local hero Mwangeka wa Mwalowa, whose courage and leadership inspired the struggle for freedom. Despite being executed by colonial authorities, his body has never been recovered for burial, a lasting reminder of the region’s deep-rooted history in Kenya’s independence journey.

The event was well attended, drawing residents from across the sub-county. Importantly, this was the first public celebration ever held in Mwanda Location and notably Njawuli Sub-location, marking a historic milestone for the area and underscoring its growing recognition in county and national events.

The climax of the event was the reading of speeches from His Excellency the President and Taita Taveta County Governor Andrew Mwadime (Wakujaa). The speeches were delivered by Wundanyi Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner Jane Kaingati and County Chief Officer for Agriculture Stephen Mcharo respectively.

The function was also graced by Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, Taita Taveta County Assembly Acting Speaker Anselm Mwadime, the Taita Sub-County security team, Sub-County Administrator Anne Mwatika, Ward Administrator Dickson Ngati, and local chiefs led by Area Chief Mwakala Moka. Also in attendance were members of the clergy, school heads, students, and the general public, who turned up in large numbers to celebrate the country’s heroes.

Vuria Rural SACCO Sensitization Drive Reaches More Farmers

Over the past two weeks, a series of community meetings have been held to popularize the Vuria Rural SACCO, an initiative that enables residents to benefit from the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP).

The sensitization drive covered eight venues— Ndile, Marungu, Njawuli, Mlamba, Mgange Nyika, Mgange Dawida, Mwaroko, and Lushangonyi where farmers were encouraged to register and take advantage of the SACCO’s opportunities for growth and financial empowerment.

The meetings were conducted in partnership with the Mwanda/Mgange Community Development Driven Committee (CDDC), Local Administration, and officers from the Departments of Agriculture, Livestock and Blue Economy, as well as Devolution, Public Service and Administration.

The County Government of Taita Taveta continues to champion initiatives that empower farmers, promote agribusiness, and boost household incomes across the county.

Residents Urged to Join Vuria Rural SACCO to Tap into NAVCDP Opportunities

Residents of Lower Kishamba Sub-location were on Monday encouraged to register for the Vuria Rural SACCO during community engagement and registration drives held at Ndile and Marungu. The exercise aimed to promote community participation in the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP).

The Vuria Rural SACCO serves as a vehicle through which individuals and groups can benefit from a revolving fund designed to support local ventures within the five key value chains promoted under the program — banana, dairy, poultry, green grams, and Irish potato.

Joining the SACCO offers members several benefits, including access to affordable credit facilities, opportunities for collective savings, financial training and empowerment, and access to grants or revolving funds to boost agribusiness ventures.

The meetings were facilitated by the Mwanda/Mgange Community-Driven Development Committee (CDDC), the Ward Administrator, Ward Agriculture Officers, the Chief of Mwanda Location, and committee representatives from both the Vuria Rural SACCO.

The registration drives seek to empower farmers and entrepreneurs to expand income-generating activities, strengthen household livelihoods, and promote community-led economic growth through agribusiness.

New Committee Installed to Oversee Mbangang'ombe/Mbangasuri Water Project Operations

Following elections held a fortnight ago, we today witnessed the successful installation of the new operational committee after a smooth handover process.

The Mbangang'ombe/Mbangasuri Water Project has stood the test of time, consistently supplying water to five villages in Mgange Location throughout the year.

Remarkably, the project has connected almost every household except one with plans already in place to ensure it is also served.

This initiative remains a shining example of a community-managed water project, built through communal effort, dedication, and a shared commitment to improving livelihoods.
