The Mombasa Care team is stationed across our health facilities to support patients, guide them in accessing healthcare services, and ensure their concerns are heard and addressed.

The team also serves as an important link between the Governor’s Office and the Department of Health, bringing patients’ needs and experiences to the attention of leadership.

As H.E. Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir puts it:
“Look at the interest of the patient. Walk to the wards and talk to the patients.”

TB AWARENESS SESSIONS IN SCHOOLS
We continue to strengthen Tuberculosis (TB) prevention, awareness and early detection among school-going children through targeted TB awareness sessions in schools.

The sessions equip learners and school staff with knowledge on:
🫁 Recognizing common signs and symptoms of TB
🔍 The importance of early testing and treatment
💨 How TB spreads and how it can be prevented
🤝 Reducing stigma and discrimination against people affected by TB
📢 Encouraging learners to share accurate TB information with their families and communities

These activities are part of efforts to promote healthy schools and communities through prevention, early identification and timely referral of TB cases.

Special thanks to the Centre for Health Solutions (CHS) for supporting these important TB awareness sessions in schools.

Together, we can build TB-free schools and communities.

The County Health Management Team (CHMT) held a research meeting this morning, bringing together teams to share progress and strengthen evidence-informed health programming.

The meeting featured presentations on two important research initiatives:
1. Characterizing key B-cell determinants of mild and severe dengue virus (DENV) infections in MRD-A, Kenya - with a focus on proposed protocol amendments to strengthen the study and contribute to evidence that can inform future dengue vaccine design.
2. Imara Framework Gap Analysis - an initiative by the Africa Sickle Cell Organization (ASCO) aimed at identifying gaps and opportunities to strengthen support and systems for people affected by sickle cell disease.

The meeting provided an important platform for research collaboration, technical review, knowledge sharing, and translating research evidence into stronger health policies and programmes in Mombasa County.

The session took participants through how to communicate health risks clearly, accurately and responsibly, particularly during outbreaks and other public health emergencies.

Emphasis was placed on delivering timely and trusted information, addressing misinformation and rumours, understanding community concerns and ensuring that health messages are communicated in a way that communities can easily understand and act upon and creating effective awareness during public health emergencies.
