There have been circulating reports alleging that the Islamic Republic of Iran is planning to target Kenya with long-range projectiles. These claims prompted the Iranian Ambassador to Kenya to issue a clarification, dismissing them as unfounded rumors.
From a purely military and technical standpoint, even if such intent existed, Iran’s current missile capabilities would not support such an operation. Open-source defense assessments indicate that Iran’s longest-range ballistic missiles have an estimated maximum range of approximately 2,000 kilometers (about 1,240 miles, or roughly 1,080 nautical miles).
In contrast, the distance between Iran and Kenya exceeds 4,000 kilometers (approximately 2,485 miles, or about 2,160 nautical miles). This distance is well beyond the operational reach of Iran’s known missile systems. Any projectile launched toward Kenya under these constraints would fall significantly short of its target, most likely impacting the Indian Ocean long before reaching Kenyan airspace.
Therefore, based on current publicly available military capability data, such claims lack strategic and technical feasibility.
