His Majesty King Letsie III of the Kingdom of Lesotho Government commends The Taita Taveta County Government for its deliberate investment in agriculture and value addition, saying the establishment of a sunflower oil processing plant and the completion of a modern rice milling plant will strengthen food security, spur the local economy, and promote sustainable agricultural development.

During his official tour in the county, His Majesty further noted the importance of investing in agro-processing stating that it not only increases farmers' earnings but also creates employment opportunities, reduces post-harvest losses, and builds resilient food systems capable of sustaining communities.

Governor Andrew Mwadime Wakujaa, EGH, reaffirmed his administration's commitment to working hand in hand with like-minded development partners to realize the county's agricultural transformation agenda.

"We have focused on value addition, equipping farmers with modern production technologies, expanding irrigation, and creating sustainable markets that will enhance household incomes while positioning Taita Taveta as a food-secure and economically resilient county." Noted H.E Mwadime.

Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary General Ahmed Idris pledged the organization’s continued partnership with the County Government in advancing food security, climate resilience, and community livelihood programmes.

"Strong collaboration between governments and development partners remains essential in improving the welfare of local communities," he said.

During the visit, the delegation officially commissioned the Taveta Sunflower Growers Oil Processing Plant before inspecting the newly completed rice milling plant.

Deputy Governor Christine Kilalo added that the two flagship projects will improve the livelihoods of the residents and put Taita Taveta on the map.

Taita Taveta County continues to cement its position as one of the leading investment destinations in the Coastal region following the arrival of yet another international investor seeking to tap into the county’s vast economic potential.

Governor Andrew Mwadime welcomed Qi-Tang Limited, a Chinese company that has expressed keen interest in investing in key sectors including mining, water, energy, tourism and agriculture. The Governor noted that the county remains open and ready for partnerships that will spur economic growth, create employment opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of residents.

Governor Mwadime further called for the fast-tracking of investment processes and implementation of projects, cautioning that prolonged bureaucratic procedures could delay the realization of transformative development initiatives.

During site visits coordinated by the Taita Taveta Investment Development Corporation (TTIDC) Chief Executive Officer Richard Kibengo, the investors expressed satisfaction with the county’s investment environment and praised the leadership for its commitment to fostering positive partnerships and investor support.

Qi-Tang Limited’s interest in Taita Taveta County follows Governor Mwadime’s investment mission to China late last year, which aimed at attracting global investors into the county. Among the flagship projects proposed by the company are the establishment of a 50-megawatt solar power plant and investment in gemstone mineral exportation and value addition and agribusiness.

The developments signal growing international confidence in Taita Taveta County as a strategic hub for sustainable investment and industrial growth.

Deputy Governor Christine Kilalo has reiterated the importance of properly packaging the county’s investment opportunities, calling for strong and positive partnerships to help drive growth in the sector.

Speaking during a visit by a team from the Kenya Investment Authority (KIA), Kilalo highlighted the many underutilised opportunities within the county. She welcomed the move to profile and package these opportunities, an exercise that will be carried out by KIA in partnership with the Taita Taveta Investment and Development Corporation (TTIDC).

Leading the team, TTIDC CEO Richard Kibengo emphasized the need to establish a one-stop portal showcasing key investment projects across the county.

“This will facilitate investor services by making it easier to identify viable opportunities and projects, and clearly guide potential investors on where to invest,” said Kibengo.

He further noted that the county holds significant potential in sectors such as water, agriculture, and health, adding that unlocking these opportunities will greatly benefit residents.

During the site visits, Helen Chemuren, Head of One Stop Centre Services at the Kenya Investment Authority, acknowledged the county’s vast investment potential. She urged departmental directorates to fast-track the process to ensure timely completion.

“Once completed, the data will not only help attract investors but also position the county as a competitive and viable investment destination,” she said.

Governor Andrew Mwadime Secures Landmark Win as Taita Taveta Advances Local Content Bill 2026

Taita Taveta County has taken a bold step toward economic empowerment under the leadership of Governor Andrew Mwadime, marking a major milestone in securing jobs and local wealth through the advancement of the Local Content Draft Bill 2026.

Spearheaded by the Taita Taveta Investment and Development Corporation (TTIDC), the County has successfully moved the Bill forward following a high-level stakeholder engagement session, signaling a decisive shift from an “Open Door” investment approach to one that guarantees tangible, long-term benefits for residents.

For years, Taita Taveta has attracted external investors, but with limited local impact. This landmark Bill now seeks to change that by ensuring that the people of Taita Taveta are not just spectators, but active participants and beneficiaries in investments within their own county.

At the heart of the Bill is a requirement that all major investments prioritize the local workforce, creating employment opportunities for residents and reducing reliance on external labor. To support this, the County Government has committed to strengthening training and capacity-building programs to equip locals with the skills needed to thrive in emerging industries.

According to the TTIDC chief executive officer Richard Kibengo, “This Bill is a game-changer for Taita Taveta. It ensures that investment in our county directly translates into jobs, business opportunities, and shared prosperity for our people. We are laying a firm foundation where no serious investor can overlook local participation as a core requirement,”

This initiative goes beyond policy, it is a strategic move toward sustainable development. By promoting local participation and procurement, the County is building a strong circular economy where wealth is generated, retained, and reinvested within Taita Taveta.

As the Bill progresses, public participation forums are ongoing across sub-counties to ensure that it reflects the voices and aspirations of the people before it is tabled in the County Assembly.

Geospatial Research Institution (GRI) commences a feasibility study for the Bulk Njoro Kubwa Water Supply Project.

Coming months after an introductory meeting spearheaded by the Taita Taveta Investment Development Corporation (TTIDC)at the Governor’s Office for the pre-feasibility study, the team, led by Dr. Hilda Manzi, is expected to conduct public barazas with residents living within the 500-metre buffer zone. The County Government has reaffirmed its full commitment and support throughout the four-week exercise.

GRI will focus on the proposed bulk water distribution network, with the primary goal of addressing water scarcity across Taita Taveta County.
