SHA Biometric Registration Exercise Launched
The Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Patrick Aranduh, CBS, today joined the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, at the launch of the SHA Biometric Registration Exercise for dependants and the Public Officers Medical Scheme Fund (POMSF) Tariffs Signing Ceremony at Kenyatta National Hospital.

The initiative will enhance access to quality healthcare for Kenya Prisons Service officers and their families through improved patient identification, reduced fraud, and streamlined healthcare services under the Social Health Insurance framework.

KENYA PRISONS SERVICE SHINES AT QV NYERI CHESS OPEN 2026.

The Kenya Prisons Service Chess Club made an impressive mark at the Quo Vadis (QV) Nyeri Chess Open 2026, fielding a contingent of 25 participants and emerging as the recipient of the Special Award for the Most Participants from One Chess Club.

Among the outstanding performers was SGT Macharia Gilbert Mwangi, who was awarded a cash prize as the Best Person with Disability (PWD) in the tournament. The event also recognized exceptional performances in various categories, including Best Veteran and Best PWD.

The awards ceremony was graced by the President of the Chess Kenya Federation, Mr. Benard Wanjala, and the President of the Cameroon Chess Federation, Mr. Benjamin, who joined other guests in celebrating the achievements of the players.

QUO VADIS NYERI CHESS OPEN 2026.

Kenya Prisons Service 2026 Inter-Regional Chess Champion, SSGT Benard Chacha, was in action today during Round 3 of the 8-round Classical Chess category at the prestigious Quo Vadis Nyeri Chess Open 2026.

SSGT Chacha continues to showcase his tactical prowess and competitive spirit as he represents the Kenya Prisons Service among top chess players from across the country. The tournament provides an excellent platform for participants to test their skills, gain valuable experience, and promote the growth of chess in Kenya.

COMMISSIONER GENERAL OF PRISONS VISITS KITALE COMMAND ON WORKING TOUR

The Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Patrick Aranduh, CBS, today conducted a working tour of Kitale Command, comprising Kitale Main Prison, Kitale Medium Prison, Kitale Annex Prison, and Kitale Women Prison.

Upon arrival, he was received by the Regional Commander, ACGP Joseph Saitoti, and the Officers-in-Charge of the respective institutions: ACGP Moses Chepkoy, SSP William Tanui, SP C. Mukangai, and SSP Asha Siomi.

In his address to officers, the Commissioner General commended the staff for their dedication and encouraged them to further diversify agricultural and livestock production activities, noting that the region is one of the country's key food-producing zones. He emphasized that increased farm productivity would not only enhance government revenue generation but also provide valuable vocational training opportunities for inmates, thereby supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The Commissioner General further underscored the importance of maintaining secure custody and safe containment of inmates as a critical component of ensuring public safety and community security.

During the tour, he inspected the land that had been successfully recovered from encroachers, visited the Affordable Housing Project site at Kitale Medium Prison, and assessed the progress of the dispensary under construction at Kitale Annex Prison.

The Commissioner General was accompanied by senior officers, including the Director of Rehabilitation and Welfare, SACGP Priscila Majere, MBS; the Director of Farms, Patrick Kariri, OGW; and the Head of Infrastructure, CP Gabriel Koech, among other officers.

KILIFI GK PRISON MARKS WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY.

Kilifi GK Prison today joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Environment Day through a tree-planting exercise aimed at promoting environmental conservation and supporting the national tree-growing initiative.

The institution hosted a delegation from The National Heroes Council led by Chairperson Jimmy Angwenyi and CEO Dr. Charles Wambia, accompanied by board members Rt. Rev. David Lebarleleyia, John Kenywua, Chirchir Fatik, among others.

The team joined prison staff and inmates in planting over 1,200 assorted tree seedlings within the institution, reaffirming their commitment to environmental sustainability and the Government's greening agenda.

MARKING WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY AT ELDORET PRISON COMMAND.

The Kenya Prisons Service today joined the rest of the world in marking World Environment Day at Eldoret Prisons Command through a tree-planting exercise in which 2,300 trees, including fruit trees, were planted.

In compliance with the directive of H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, CGH, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Correctional Services, Dr. Salome Beacco, CBS, led the initiative. In her remarks, she encouraged officers and inmates to continuously plant, nurture and grow trees in support of the Greening Kenya Initiative, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation for future generations.

During the exercise and a subsequent working visit to Eldoret Command, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Patrick Aranduh, CBS, urged officers to use social media responsibly and professionally. He also encouraged inmates to take advantage of trained paralegals within correctional facilities to enhance their understanding of court procedures and facilitate the submission of applications to the Power of Mercy Advisory Committee (POMAC), thereby improving their capacity for self-representation in court.

The delegation was received by the Regional Commander, ACGP Joseph Saitoti, Officer in Charge, Eldoret Main Prison, ACGP Samuel Chepkonga, and Officer in Charge, Eldoret Women Prison, SSP Patricia Makali.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S NETBALL TEAMS RETURN DEPARTMENTAL FLAG AFTER EAST AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIP SUCCESS

The Kenya Prisons Service Men's and Women's Netball Teams today returned the Departmental Flag to the Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr Patrick M. Aranduh, CBS, after their participation in the East African Championships at Ulinzi Sports Complex. The CGP was joined by KPS Sports Council led by the Chairperson Mr Nicholas Maswai, MBS, DCGP (A) and Directors from Prisons Headquarters.

The Men's Team emerged champions, while the Women's Team finished 5th overall and as the best Kenyan team in the tournament.

Mr Maswai congratulated the teams for their discipline and performance, and thanked the Commissioner General for his continued support to sports development.

The Commissioner General commended the teams for bringing honour and Pride to the Department, and as a Gesture of appreciation, he facilitated them with Sports equipment, and reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a Sports Academy at PSTC in collaboration with the State Department for Sports.

On behalf of the Kenya Prisons Service, the CGP congratulates the teams for proudly flying the Department's flag at the regional level.

WORKING VISIT TO NAIROBI REMAND & ALLOCATION MAXIMUM PRISON AND THE MOTOR VEHICLE DEPOT (MVD)

The Commissioner General of Prisons, Patrick Aranduh, today conducted a working visit to Nairobi Remand and Allocation Maximum Prison, where he carried out a security inspection tour to assess operations and reinforce security measures within the institution. He also inspected the newly installed solar power system aimed at enhancing sustainable energy use.

The CGP later visited the Motor Vehicle Depot and Workshop (MVD), where he flagged off a fleet of minibuses to bolster operational efficiency and improve service delivery across the Kenya Prisons Service.

The visit underscores the Service's commitment to strengthening security, embracing sustainable solutions, and enhancing operational capacity in support of its mandate.
