MARKING WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY AT ELDORET PRISON COMMAND.
The Kenya Prisons Service today joined the rest of the world in marking World Environment Day at Eldoret Prisons Command through a tree-planting exercise in which 2,300 trees, including fruit trees, were planted.
In compliance with the directive of H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, CGH, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Correctional Services, Dr. Salome Beacco, CBS, led the initiative. In her remarks, she encouraged officers and inmates to continuously plant, nurture and grow trees in support of the Greening Kenya Initiative, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation for future generations.
During the exercise and a subsequent working visit to Eldoret Command, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Mr. Patrick Aranduh, CBS, urged officers to use social media responsibly and professionally. He also encouraged inmates to take advantage of trained paralegals within correctional facilities to enhance their understanding of court procedures and facilitate the submission of applications to the Power of Mercy Advisory Committee (POMAC), thereby improving their capacity for self-representation in court.
The delegation was received by the Regional Commander, ACGP Joseph Saitoti, Officer in Charge, Eldoret Main Prison, ACGP Samuel Chepkonga, and Officer in Charge, Eldoret Women Prison, SSP Patricia Makali.
Also in attendance were Director Rehabilitation and Welfare, SACGP Priscilla Majere, MBS, Director of Farms, Patrick Kariri, OGW, the Uasin Gishu County Police Commander,CP Wilberforce Sicharani, Administration Police Commander, CP Kiplagat Sele, Head of Infrastructure, CP Gabriel Koech, and the Deputy County Commissioner, Dominic Onyango among other government officials.
