Multi-Agency Efforts Towards Decongestion of Nakuru Main Prison.

Nakuru Main Prison hosted a high-level multi-agency delegation led by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Renson Ingonga, in a concerted effort to advance prison decongestion initiatives through diversion and plea bargaining processes.

The engagement brought together key actors within the criminal justice system who reaffirmed their commitment to fast-tracking case resolution mechanisms in collaboration with the Kenya Prisons Service to address overcrowding at the facility. Notably, the courts committed to continue court sittings to sustain the momentum and enhance access to justice.

The delegation included Hon. Justice Dr. Joseph Sergon, Hon. Lady Justice Patricia Gichohi, Hon. Lady Justice Lucy Mumbua, Hon. Lady Justice Margaret Waringa Muigai, Directors from the ODPP and Probation Service, Magistrates from Nakuru and Molo Law Courts, the County Commissioner and County Security Team, leadership of the LSK Nakuru Chapter alongside pro bono lawyers, alternative justice actors, and other stakeholders.

Climate Action in Action!

In support of the national greening agenda and environmental conservation efforts, the Nairobi Region led by Regional Commander ACGP Henry Limanye ndc(K), in collaboration with OICs within Nairobi Region and Pioneer Insurance, today conducted a major tree planting and growing exercise at Kamiti Medium Security Prison.

Taking advantage of the ongoing rains, over 20,000 trees were planted in a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability, increasing forest cover, and contributing to a greener Kenya.

The initiative underscores the Kenya Prisons Service commitment to climate action, conservation, and partnerships that create a lasting impact for future generations.

2026 EAC NETBALL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS UPDATES.

The Kenya Prisons ladies netball team today faced defending champions KCAA of Uganda in a thrilling and highly competitive third match of the championships at Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Despite a spirited performance, great determination and fighting till the final whistle, our ladies narrowly went down 35-44 in their first loss of the tournament.

The team remains firmly on course for a Semi Final slot as the campaign continues.

Today, the National Launch of the PWD Inmates Registration Exercise was held at Nairobi Remand and Allocation Maximum Prison under the theme Recognized, Respected, Restored.

The initiative seeks to ensure inmates living with disabilities are registered with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities and issued with Disability Registration Numbers (DRN), enabling access to essential support services, assistive devices, proper accommodation, and tailored rehabilitation programmes.

The exercise strengthens inclusion, dignity, and humane rehabilitation services while supporting successful reintegration back into society.

*Day Two of the Kenya Prisons Inter-Regional Championships

The second day of the highly anticipated Kenya Prisons Inter-Regional Athletics, Darts and Chess Championships was officially flagged off today at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata, and the Prisons Staff Training College (PSTC), Ruiru, with athletes and participants continuing to showcase remarkable talent, discipline and competitive spirit.

In the athletics men’s category, Nairobi Region emerged dominant after securing 3 gold medals and 7 silver medals. In the women’s category, PSTC delivered an outstanding performance, clinching 7 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals.

PSTC emerged the overall athletics champions with an impressive total of 21 medals. Lilian Odira was crowned the Best Female Athlete after a stellar performance that saw her win 5 gold medals, while Dominic Kibitok from the North Eastern Region earned recognition as the Best Male Athlete after winning 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals.

Meanwhile, in the Kenya Darts Association Inter-Regional Prisons Championships, Central Region emerged as the overall winners following a strong and consistent display throughout the competition.

The championships continue to foster unity, teamwork, discipline and excellence among officers drawn from different regions across the country, while also providing a platform to nurture and celebrate sporting talent within the Kenya Prisons Service.

The 2026 Kenya Prisons Inter-Regional Athletics, Darts and Chess Championships officially kicked off today under the stewardship of the Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh CBS.

The championships bring together participants from various regions across the country in a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork and talent development within the Service.

At Prisons Staff Training College, the Commandant Angus Masoro officially opened the Chess and Darts competitions, marking the beginning of the indoor sporting events ahead of the National athletics championship.

The Commissioner General of Prisons Mr Patrick Aranduh, CBS today received donations from partners and stakeholders in preparation for the upcoming Kenya Prisons Inter-Regional Athletics, Darts and Chess Championships which kicked off with the darts competition at Prisons Staff Training College, with the athletics championship set to take place from 7th–9thMay 2026.

In his remarks, the Commissioner General affirmed the readiness of the Service as a sporting powerhouse, noting that sports continue to play a critical role in promoting discipline, teamwork, talent development and the physical wellness of officers and inmates alike.

He commended the partners and stakeholders for their continued support towards the growth of sports within the Service, adding that the championships provide a platform for nurturing talent, fostering unity and enhancing institutional cohesion across regions.

The championships are expected to bring together participants from various regions across the country to compete in athletics, darts and chess as the Service continues to strengthen its rich sporting legacy.
