Driving Kenya’s Dairy Industry Forward. 🥛🇰🇪

The Kenya Dairy Board (KDB) and the Kenya Dairy Processors Association (KDPA) convened a high-level strategic dialogue to align priorities, address industry challenges and unlock new opportunities for growth across the dairy value chain.

Led by Ag. MD Dr. Kimutai Maritim and KDPA Interim Chairman Kenneth Gitonga, the engagement brought together CEOs and representatives of leading dairy processors from across the country.

The dialogue underscored a shared commitment to stronger industry collaboration, competitive markets, quality milk, value addition and improved outcomes for dairy farmers.

Together, we are building a resilient, competitive and farmer-driven dairy industry that creates jobs, strengthens livelihoods and contributes to Kenya’s economic growth.

Quality Milk for Health and Wealth. 🇰🇪🥛

Kenya Dairy Board, led by Ag. Managing Director Dr. Kimutai Maritim, proudly joined the Meru Central Dairy Cooperative Union's 11th Annual Dairy Farmers Field Day, graced by H.E. Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, and Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya.

The dairy value chain tells a powerful story; one of transforming livelihoods, improving nutrition, creating jobs, and driving economic growth for thousands of farming families across Kenya.

Meru dairy farmers received a major boost with the announcement that the farm-gate milk price will increase to KSh 52 per litre effective 1st August 2026, alongside the commissioning of a low-cost feed mill that will significantly reduce production costs and improve farmer profitability. These interventions are expected to accelerate milk production, increase Meru Central Dairy Cooperative Union's daily milk intake towards the projected 1 million litres, and support the rollout of the Quality-Based Milk Payment System next year.

Kenya Dairy Board applauds the outstanding leadership of Meru Central Dairy Cooperative Union and the commitment of its dairy farmers. The cooperative's success demonstrates the impact of investing in farmer capacity building, value addition, and quality-driven production. We encourage dairy cooperatives across the country to emulate this model as we work together to build a more competitive, sustainable, and prosperous dairy sector.
