Today, I joined family, friends, and the community at Kamolo Primary School grounds to pay my last respects to the late Ken Okomol and Wakili Cynthia Barasa, two young siblings who tragically lost their lives in a boat tragedy in Mombasa after being overwhelmed by the strong waves of the Indian Ocean.
I was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for Teso North, Hon. Oku Kaunya; the Member of Parliament for Teso South, Hon. Mary Emaase; the Deputy Governor of Busia County, H.E. Arthur Odera; and former and current Members of the Busia County Assembly.
Ken and Cynthia were young, vibrant, and full of promise. Their untimely passing is a heartbreaking loss to their family and the entire community. I extend my heartfelt condolences to their loved ones. May God grant them strength, comfort, and courage during this difficult period.
Beyond the funeral, we reflected on the development trajectory of our county, including National Government projects being undertaken in Busia under the leadership of President William Ruto. These investments are translating into tangible benefits for our people through improved infrastructure, economic opportunities, and better livelihoods.
We also held an honest conversation about why Busia continues to struggle with basic necessities despite years of devolution. Reliable clean water, quality healthcare, good roads, and meaningful support for our farmers are fundamental responsibilities that must be fulfilled.
Busia deserves accountable leadership, prudent management of public resources, and a county government that delivers results. Our people deserve a future defined by opportunities, dignity, and sustainable development—not endless promises.
May the souls of Ken Okomol and Wakili Cynthia Barasa rest in eternal peace. May God comfort their family and give them strength in this moment of profound grief.
