It was a colorful day as CRS marked the annual Civil Registration and Vital Statistics day at Ngong Stadium in Kajiado North constituency. The event brought together local NGAO officials, key stakeholders and members of the public.

Also present at the event were representatives from our department including directors; Mr. Samuel Lukanu, Ms. Judy Amboko and Mr. Paul Kagiri alongside other senior members of staff.

The Africa Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Day, is a day dedicated to championing legal Identity from birth to death for all persons as a documented birth or death is a life acknowledged.

Speaking on behalf of the Secretary, Mr. Paul Mwangemi, the directors reaffirmed the department's commitment to ensuring civil registration services remain accessible to all, while also encouraging timely registration of births and deaths and uptake of certificates by residents as a means to unlock other critical public services including, student enrollment in the education sector, access to universal healthcare, social and legal protection and financial services.The event further underscored the value of vital statistics generated from timely registration in aiding the government's national planning.

The event wrapped up on a high note with members of the public receiving their certificates and other goodies from the department.

In the run-up to the upcoming 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆, CRS conducted a one-week Mobile Birth and Death Registration Exercise in Kajiado North - taking the vital services closer to communities.

Residents of Ngong Township and Enchorr-Emuny sub-locations turned up in numbers and were elated to receive their birth and death certificates in a same day service bringing smiles to many.

Kajiado North is set to play host to this year's 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗖𝗥𝗩𝗦 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟭𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝘁 𝗡𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺. Join us as we mark this special day dedicated to raising public awareness on the importance of legal identity for all and celebrating progress in civil registration and vital statistics systems in Kenya.

The Usajili Mashinani joint mobile registration exercise is underway in the counties of Nakuru, Kwale
and Taita Taveta. From villages to communities, our mission remains to deliver birth and death registration services directly to the residents - a transformative step towards unlocking access to education, health care, financial inclusion and other government services.

The exercise is a demonstration of a government responsive to the needs of its citizenry as for far too long, these areas have existed on the periphery with locals facing limited access to legal identity documentation.

An undocumented person remains invisible and excluded from government planning, services and opportunities - but a birth or death registered, is a life acknowledged.

We are delivering services across Nakuru, Kwale and Taita Taveta, one registration at a time.

📍Usajili Mashinani Mobile Registration - North Eastern, Kenya

In yet another edition of Usajili Mashinani initiative, Civil Registration Services in collaboration with the National Registration Bureau, have teamed up for a joint mobile registration exercise in the NorthEastern counties of Garissa, Wajir and Mandera.

The exercise is currently underway with our teams traversing the expansive counties with a mission to bring identity registration services closer to the residents.

The initiative, is a step towards addressing the long-standing inequities in access to legal identity documentation that has left thousands of residents in these counties undocumented, making essential services such as education and healthcare out of reach for many.

CRS is calling on all residents of Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties to seize the opportunity of the mobile exercise to register births and deaths, as together, we can improve the registration coverage rates and move closer to our vision of universal legal identity for all.

📍The Nairobi Hospital.
We are rolling out the eNotification System, a fully digital platform for the notification and registration of births and deaths. This system will replace the traditional paper-based process with a modern, paperless solution.

What this means:
✅Real-time birth registration, eliminating previous delays
Paperless process with no physical forms required
✅Improved accessibility and convenience
✅Digital notifications via SMS and email

The rollout has begun in phases, starting with Nairobi County. We are currently onboarding and training hospitals and health facilities to support implementation; with plans underway for a national rollout. The Data Sharing Committee has today met to deliberate on possible data sharing frameworks that will allow us to accountably share fertility and mortality data with other government agencies.

Our data sharing will be governed by the data minimization practice that restricts recipient agencies to using the personal data only for the purposes it is shared for. This is to enhance personal data privacy as stipulated in the Data Protection Act of Kenya.

Large numbers of Samburu County residents continue to turn out to the various real-time mobile registration and issuance sites. What this exercise means for the residents of this county is:

1. Social and economic inclusion. Opening of bank accounts, voting, and employment.

2. Protection from exploitation like child labor, early marriages and trafficking.

3. Access to essential services like school enrollment, healthcare, feeding programs and employment.

4. National ID eligibility at the age of 18 years.

5. Death certificates are critical for protection of inheritance rights to land, livestock for widows in the event of a spouse’s death.

We remain aligned to the BETA pillar of inclusive national growth.
