This morning, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, had the honour of hosting the Governor of Samburu County, Hon. Lati Lelelit, the Chair of the Laikipia University Council, Dr. Lemein Korei and the Vice-Chancellor of Laikipia University, Prof. Kibett Rotich at the Ministry’s Jogoo House B Offices.

Among other issues, the meeting discussed the implementation of the directive by His Excellency the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, on the establishment of a university in Samburu County.

The Government is committed to expanding access to higher education through multiple strategies, including the establishment of universities across the country, in addition to ensuring that university programmes remain affordable and that students are equitably funded.

The Principal Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, alongside the Principal Secretary for the State Department for TVET, Esther Mworia, CBS, yesterday officiated the opening of the 1st National Qualifications Conference organised by the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) at the Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi County.

The inaugural conference, themed “A Decade of Transformation and Reimagining Qualifications in Kenya,” underscored the evolving role of qualifications beyond certificates and academic papers. Discussions highlighted the dignity of labour, the need to unlock human potential, recognise competencies wherever they are found, strengthen trust between education, industry and society, and build a globally competitive education system.

The conference brought together stakeholders from government, industry, civil society, employers, conformity assessment bodies, and regulatory agencies, all united in advancing Kenya’s qualifications and skills agenda.

In her address, Dr. Inyangala noted that the State Department for Higher Education is preparing universities for the first cohort of Competency-Based Education (CBE) learners expected in 2029. She reaffirmed the State Department’s commitment to quality, relevance, and inclusion in accreditation processes to create confidence and opportunities for all learners and professionals.

Also in attendance were the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Industrialization, Dr. Juma Mukhwana, parastatal CEOs, and other invited dignitaries.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, has today had the honour of joining His Excellency the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto at Maseno School in Kisumu County, to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the establishment of the institution.

Established in 1906 with only six learners, Maseno School has grown into one of the country’s most distinguished institutions of learning, widely respected for its tradition of academic excellence, character formation, and leadership development.

Over the past 120 years, the school has nurtured generations of leaders who have made notable contributions to national development and beyond, firmly securing its place among Kenya’s enduring centres of educational excellence.

The Principal Secretary for Higher Education, Dr Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, on Thursday joined the Deputy President, His Excellency Professor Kithure Kindiki, in officially opening the 3rd Annual Regulatory Authorities and Agencies Conference at the South Eastern Kenya University Main Campus in Kitui County.

A total of 127 regulatory authorities and agencies were represented at the conference. Through their statutory mandates, these institutions license, set standards, enforce compliance, inspect, approve, and where necessary, take action to shape markets, safeguard livelihoods, and protect the welfare of all Kenyans in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Other dignitaries present included the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, fellow Principal Secretaries, chairpersons and board members of regulatory authorities, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of agencies, and other senior State officials.

Earlier today, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, conveyed the message of condolence from His Excellency the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, to the family of the late Prof. Raphael Munavu.

The late Prof. Munavu was laid to rest at his Mbilini home in Kangundo, Machakos County.

The late Prof. Munavu was a distinguished scholar and dedicated public servant whose life’s work greatly advanced the cause of education and national development.

He was a focused education administrator who led a number of universities and education sector bodies and a reform leader whose work has left an indelible mark that will continue to inspire generations. Most recently, he served as Chairperson of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reform. The recommendations by the Working Party continue to shape the implementation of Competency-Based Education.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

This morning, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, had the honour of attending the 2nd National Education Conference that was officially opened by His Excellency the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, at the Lake Naivasha Resort in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The Conference brings together key stakeholders in the education sector, including the Ministry and its agencies, teacher unions and associations, education administrators and regulators, institutional sponsors, development partners, universities, TVET institutions, professional associations, learners and faith-based organizations spanning the entire education continuum.

The Conference has been convened to review the progress we have made, especially in the rollout of Competency-Based Education and also examine the many transformative reforms we are implementing to ensure that our education system remains fit for purpose in meeting the demands of the 21st-century and beyond.

The event was attended by, among others, the Principal Secretaries for Basic Education (Amb. Julius K. Bitok) and Higher Education (Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala).

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, in the company of the Secretary to the Cabinet, Mrs. Mercy Wanjau, met yesterday with a team of researchers under the Advancing Women’s Leadership in Academia initiative.

The team presented to the Cabinet Secretary the findings of a research on the challenges facing women’s leadership in academia, and the proposed interventions to ensure that women are not unduly prevented from ascending to leadership in academia.

The Ministry of Education is committed to fostering an environment of equality of genders and open competition for leadership in academia, in line with the tenets of the Constitution.

Yesterday afternoon, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, presided over the official opening of the 3rd Annual Educational Assessment Symposium at the New Mitihani House in South C.

This year’s Symposium is held under the theme “Reimagining Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment for Inclusive, Innovative and FutureReady Learning.” This Symposium provides a platform for structured reflection and strategic conversation on how we can better align curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment.

The event was graced by, among others, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Amb. Prof. Julius Bitok.

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Higher Education, Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, on Thursday appeared before the Public Accounts Committee to review the Auditor-General’s Report on the Financial Statements for FY 2023/2024.
The session provided an opportunity to reaffirm the Department’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and the prudent use of public resources in the higher education sector.
The Principal Secretary was accompanied by the Acting CEO of the University Fund (UF), the Vice-Chancellor of Co-operative University, Prof. Ngamau, the Vice-Chancellor of Moi University, Prof. Kotut, and other Ministry of Education officials.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, yesterday graced the 6th Graduation Ceremony of Kisii National Polytechnic, where 4,213 graduands were awarded diplomas and certificates across various fields.

The ceremony underscored the critical role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in equipping young people with practical skills, fostering innovation, and preparing a competent workforce to drive the country’s industrial growth and economic transformation.

Also present was H.E. Elijah Obebo, Deputy Governor of Kisii County.
