The Principal Secretary for Higher Education, Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, had the honour of officially opening the 17th Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) Annual Conference in Nairobi, yesterday at the Argyle Hotel, Nairobi, on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba, EBS.

Held under the theme, "Powering the Future of Higher Education in East Africa through Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations," the conference has convened higher education leaders, policymakers, scholars and development partners from across the East African Community to deliberate on the future of higher education in the region.

Dr. Inyangala reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to strengthening regional collaboration in higher education through partnerships that promote academic excellence, research, innovation, quality assurance, and the mobility of students and academic staff, while advancing a vibrant East African Common Higher Education Area.
She wished all delegates fruitful deliberations as they work together to shape the future of higher education in East Africa

Education and training are at the centre of health systems strengthening through the development of a strong health workforce, spurring research and innovation and creating the foundation for domestic pharmaceutical production.

Yesterday, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga and Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK, Amb. Maurice Makoloo, witnessed the signing of the renewed Kenya-UK Health Alliance Memorandum of Understanding at King’s College London.

The renewed five-year Memorandum of Understanding seeks to foster collaboration between UK and Kenyan institutions and researchers to foster access to quality healthcare through, among others, advancing investments in health workforce development, research and innovation.

Yesterday, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, had the honour of delivering the keynote speech during the opening of the Kenya-UK Health Alliance 5th Anniversary Celebrations at King’s College London.

The conference brings together policy makers, academics, researchers and health practitioners from Kenya and the UK for focused deliberations on the progress that has been made since the inception of the historic Kenya-UK Health Alliance in 2021.

The conference affirms the central role of education and training in fostering research and innovation and in building the human capital necessary for the realization of universal health care.

Earlier today, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, had the honour of representing His Excellency the President, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, at the 40th Anniversary Celebrations and Prize Giving Day of St. George’s Girls Senior School in Nairobi.

The celebrations provided an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s 40-year journey, while also recognizing excellence in academic and co-curricular performance by both staff and learners.

Debating competitions mean a lot for the global education sector. Through such competitions, students get a chance to demonstrate their ability to talk about and solve contemporary challenges facing society through creativity and imagination, effective communication and collaboration with others.

Yesterday evening, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, presided over the official closing ceremony of the 2026 World Debating Championships, held at the KICC in Nairobi.

The championships brought together over 600 participants drawn from 76 countries across the globe. This year’s edition was the largest and most diverse in the championship’s 28 year history.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, yesterday chaired a consultative meeting of the Moi University Council, the University Management, and the national officials of the Universities Academic Staff Union to deliberate on matters affecting the institution and staff welfare.

The meeting provided an opportunity for constructive engagement on key issues aimed at strengthening governance, fostering industrial harmony, and ensuring the continued delivery of quality higher education at Moi University.

This morning, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, joined Kenyatta University in marking its 59th Graduation Ceremony, during which 2,336 graduands were conferred with qualifications in various fields.

The theme of the ceremony, “Youth Engagement for Co-creation of Inclusive Education”, speaks directly to the challenges and opportunities of our time. It affirms that young people are not merely recipients of education or passengers within the system, but active partners in shaping it and co-creators of the future they will inherit.

Universities and other institutions of tertiary education therefore have a critical responsibility to ensure that they are well-positioned to prepare young people for their indispensable role as co-creators of our nation’s transformation.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, has today flagged off the Third Phase of the Distribution of Assistive Devices and Technologies at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Through this phase, the Ministry of Education, through KISE, will distribute 11,139 assistive devices to 321 inclusive programmes and special schools serving learners with visual and physical impairments across all 47 counties.

The Government will also extend the distribution of assistive devices to senior schools and tertiary institutions, including universities, to ensure that learners with disabilities continue receiving support throughout their educational journey.
