H.E. Dr. Hon Musalia W Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, hosted Catholic Bishops Most Rev. Antony Muheria, Most Rev. Philip Anyolo and Most Rev. Maurice Muhatia for a warm and fruitful engagement at his office.

The meeting underscored the longstanding and constructive partnership between the Government and the Catholic Church, anchored on a shared commitment to the wellbeing of the Kenyan people, national unity, peace and sustainable development.

H.E. Mudavadi noted that the recently concluded AMECEA Conference provided an important platform for the Church to connect with young people, listen to their voices and engage them on issues that speak directly to their aspirations, opportunities and future. He emphasized the critical role of such engagements in nurturing responsible, empowered and values-driven generations.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the Government’s appreciation of the significant contribution made by the Catholic Church and other faith-based organisations in education, healthcare, peacebuilding, social development and the strengthening of communities across the country.

He reiterated the Government’s commitment to maintaining open and constructive engagement with the Church, noting that strong partnerships between the State, faith institutions and communities remain essential to building a united, peaceful, inclusive and prosperous Kenya.

The engagement reflected a shared conviction that when institutions work together in service of the people, dialogue becomes a bridge, partnership becomes a strength, and national progress becomes a shared responsibility.

Africa’s future is forged by nations that lead with vision, unity and purpose. As the continent confronts emerging opportunities and challenges, Kenya continues to play a defining role in shaping policies that advance Africa’s collective aspirations while delivering tangible benefits for its people.

At the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council in Addis Ababa, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, joined fellow African Foreign Ministers in driving the implementation of Agenda 2063, strengthening Africa’s voice in global governance, accelerating the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), promoting sustainable water and sanitation systems, and advancing reforms to build a more effective, accountable and people-centred African Union.

The Session marked a defining moment for Kenya following its elevation to Tier One of the African Union financing framework, placing the country alongside Africa’s largest economies and leading contributors to the Union. The milestone reflects growing confidence in Kenya’s economic strength, diplomatic leadership and enduring commitment to African unity. It also reinforces Nairobi’s standing as Africa’s Diplomatic Capital, a city where continental consensus is built, global partnerships are strengthened and Africa’s future is increasingly shaped.

For Kenya, this achievement extends far beyond recognition. It gives the country a stronger voice in shaping continental policies, expands opportunities for trade, investment and industrial growth, strengthens regional peace and security, and enhances Kenya’s attractiveness as a destination for business, innovation and international cooperation. A stronger Kenya within the African Union translates into greater opportunities for Kenyan enterprises, professionals and young people to thrive across an increasingly integrated African market.

H.E. Mudavadi also rallied support for Justice Njoki Ndung’u, Kenya’s candidate for election to the International Criminal Court (ICC), and Judge Phoebe Okowa, Kenya’s candidate for election to the International Court of Justice (2027–2036). Their election would not only elevate Kenya’s contribution to international justice but also strengthen Africa’s representation and influence within the global legal architecture.

As the Executive Council concluded its work, H.E. Mudavadi welcomed the spirit of unity, consensus and shared purpose demonstrated by Member States, noting that Africa’s progress will continue to be driven by collaboration rather than competition. He reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to championing African solutions to African challenges while positioning the country as a trusted regional leader, a global partner and a driving force behind a peaceful, prosperous and globally competitive Africa.

Africa's place in the world must be reflected in the institutions that shape global decisions. As a continent that is home to nearly one-fifth of humanity and a growing driver of global economic growth, peace and sustainable development, Africa deserves stronger representation and a more influential voice within the international system.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, reaffirmed this position during the meeting of the Ministerial Committee on African Candidatures within the International System in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, chaired by H.E. Dr. Phenyo Butale, Botswana's Minister of International Relations.

H.E. Mudavadi underscored the importance of presenting Africa's most qualified and accomplished candidates, individuals capable of serving with distinction while advancing the continent's interests, aspirations and perspectives on the global stage. He noted that stronger African representation in international institutions would not only promote greater equity in global governance but also ensure the continent's priorities are better reflected in decisions that affect its future.

He observed that the growing success of African candidates in recent international elections demonstrates what can be achieved through unity, early coordination and collective diplomacy. Such collaboration continues to elevate Africa's influence while creating greater opportunities for countries like Kenya to contribute their expertise and leadership to the international community.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary commended the African Union Commission and the Secretariat of the Ministerial Committee for strengthening this important continental process, noting that a more united Africa enhances Kenya's diplomatic influence, advances the continent's collective interests and helps build a fairer, more representative international system that delivers lasting benefits for present and future generations.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, has called for the strengthening of Kenya–Cameroon ties as a shared priority.

Speaking after a bilateral meeting with H.E. Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Cameroon's Minister of External Relations, Dr. Mudavadi said Kenya is keen on deepening its longstanding bilateral relations with Cameroon through enhanced trade, investment, and economic cooperation.

The two leaders agreed to convene the Joint Cooperation Commission (JCC) to unlock new opportunities for both countries.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary also noted that Kenya will consider the resumption of direct flights between Nairobi and Cameroon to boost connectivity, commerce, and people-to-people exchanges.

H.E. Mudavadi further took the opportunity to seek Cameroon's support for Kenya's candidates, Justice Njoki Ndung'u and Judge Phoebe Okowa, for election to international judicial positions.

Dr. Mudavadi emphasized that strong partnerships are built on mutual support, shared prosperity, and a common commitment to advancing Africa's interests on the global stage.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, has arrived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 49th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), scheduled for 28–29 July 2026.

The session brings together Foreign Ministers from across the continent to deliberate on key issues shaping Africa's governance, integration, peace and security, institutional reforms, and global engagement.

Ahead of the Executive Council session, H.E. Dr. Mudavadi will participate in the Ministerial Committee on African Candidatures within the International System, where Kenya serves as a member representing Eastern Africa alongside Uganda.

The committee plays a critical role in coordinating Africa's support for qualified African candidates seeking election to international institutions.

Dr. Mudavadi's participation will also focus on rallying continental support for Kenya's candidates seeking election to two of the world's highest judicial institutions. During ministerial engagements and bilateral consultations, he will campaign for Judge Phoebe Okowa, Kenya's candidate for election to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2027–2036 term, and Justice Njoki Ndung'u, Kenya's candidate for election to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for the same term.

The Government of Kenya is confident that both candidates possess exceptional judicial credentials, extensive international legal experience, and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law, making them well suited to serve the international community. Their election would further strengthen Africa's voice and representation within the global justice architecture while reaffirming Kenya's longstanding contribution to the development of international law.

The Executive Council will consider a broad range of strategic matters, including the report of the 52nd Permanent Representatives' Committee (PRC) Session, Africa's engagement within the G20, implementation of the African Union Institutional Reform Programme through the Skills Audit and Competency Assessment (SACA), consultations on the AU Partnership Policy and Strategic Framework, and progress in implementing the AU Theme of the Year 2026: "Ensuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063."

Ministers will also deliberate on reports from key ministerial committees, including the Ministerial Committee on African Candidatures, the Committee on the Implementation of Agenda 2063, the Committee on AU Treaties, and the Joint Ministerial Committee on the Scale of Assessment and the Committee of Fifteen Ministers of Finance (F15). The meeting will further consider the appointment of members of the African Union Board of External Auditors and adopt the working documents and draft declaration for the upcoming Mid-Year Coordination Meeting.

On the margins of the Executive Council, Dr. Mudavadi will hold a series of bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers and senior government leaders from across Africa. The discussions will focus on strengthening diplomatic and economic relations, promoting regional peace and security, enhancing trade and investment cooperation, mobilising support for Kenya's judicial candidatures, and building consensus on the implementation of the African Union Institutional Reform Agenda, particularly on the sustainable financing of the Union.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, bid farewell to the outgoing High Commissioner of the Republic of Cyprus to Kenya, H.E. Mr. Savvas Vladimirou, commending his contribution to deepening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Kenya and Cyprus.

During their discussions, H.E. Mudavadi reaffirmed Kenya's commitment to concluding key bilateral agreements in agriculture, air transport, mutual recognition of academic qualifications and the elimination of double taxation, while expanding cooperation in the blue economy, pharmaceuticals and trade. He noted that these partnerships will stimulate investment, facilitate trade, enhance skills exchange and create new opportunities for Kenyan businesses, professionals and young people.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary also welcomed the invitation to visit Cyprus and expressed his commitment to sustaining high-level engagements, including on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, as both countries work to elevate bilateral relations to a new level.

H.E. Mudavadi emphasized that Kenya's growing network of international partnerships reflects the country's rising influence on the global stage.
