KENAS is hosting the Uganda National Accreditation Service (UGANAS) team under the UGANAS Technical Assistance Programme funded by the Global Fund as part of an initiative aimed at strengthening accreditation systems and technical capacity.

The visit provides an important platform for benchmarking, knowledge exchange and sharing of best practices in conformity assessment. As part of the programme, the UGANAS team will accompany KENAS assessors during ISO 15189:2022 medical laboratory assessments, gaining practical exposure to assessment processes while supporting mutual learning and professional development.

This collaboration reinforces the value of technical cooperation in strengthening the competence, consistency and effectiveness of accreditation activities, ultimately contributing to confidence in the quality and reliability of medical laboratory services.

The KENAS Staff Retirement Benefit Scheme held its Annual General Meeting on Friday, 14th August 2026 at the KENAS offices.

The AGM provided an opportunity for members to receive and deliberate on key reports, including the Trustees’ Report, Financial Statements and Auditor’s Report for the year ended 31st December 2025, Investment Report, Administrators’ Report, and updates on benefits and contribution structures and trustee remuneration.

Members also engaged in a Questions and Answers session, reinforcing transparency, accountability and effective governance of the Scheme.

KENAS CEO Dr. Walter Ongeti, accompanied the Principal Secretary, State Department for Industry, Dr. Juma Mukhwana as he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly, chaired by Butere MP Hon. Tindi Mwale.

The session provided an opportunity to respond to matters raised regarding the audited accounts for the past two financial years, reaffirming KENAS’ commitment to accountability, transparency and sound financial management.

KENAS congratulates Reliance Hospital Laboratory on achieving accreditation to ISO 15189:2022 – Medical laboratories — Requirements for quality and competence, marking an important milestone in its commitment to quality, competence and reliable medical laboratory services.

Representing the KENAS CEO, Mr. Michael Talam, Acting Chief Manager – Certification and Inspection, congratulated the laboratory on this achievement and highlighted the importance of continually strengthening quality across healthcare services.

He also noted that Reliance Hospital could explore ISO 7101:2023 – Healthcare Organization Management as part of its broader commitment to quality, patient safety and continuous improvement.

The engagement reaffirmed KENAS’ commitment to strong governance, accountability and measurable performance, while aligning institutional priorities with Kenya’s broader national development agenda.

KENAS recently conducted a three-day training on the newly published ISO 14001:2026 standard for Certification (Management Systems) Accreditation Scheme Assessors.

In this video, our Acting Chief Manager, Certification and Inspection Mr. Michael Talam highlights the importance of the training in enhancing assessor competence and equipping participants with the knowledge and practical understanding needed to conduct consistent, effective, and technically sound assessments of Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
