Today, the Institution of Engineering Technology of Kenya (IET-K) hosted a high-level meeting with the leadership of the Technical Architects Alliance (TAA) at the IET-K offices.
The President of IET-K, Bibiye Mahmoud Juma, and the President of TAA, Sylvia M. Kasanga, held fruitful discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and partnership between IET-K and TAA. The key objective is to improve the building sector by enhancing compliance and safeguarding public safety.
Both leaders agreed on the need for joint interventions, including webinars and capacity-building workshops, aimed at addressing gaps in the built environment sector. A central theme of the discussions was the urgent need to shift from policy to implementation, identified as a critical challenge in the sector.
Also present at the meeting were the Vice President of TAA and a member of the Executive Council, reinforcing the commitment at leadership level to drive this agenda forward.
Together, we are committed to transforming the built environment sector through collaboration, professionalism, and action.

As we wrap up the Engineering Technology 4.0 Workshop at Nickolee Hotel, Nanyuki Town, we highlight the critical role of Artificial Intelligence in modern engineering design.

For Engineering Technology professionals, AI-powered design software offers powerful capabilities, but its use must remain guided by sound engineering judgment, ethical responsibility, and a clear understanding of core principles. AI should enhance accuracy, efficiency and innovation not replace professional expertise.

The Institution of Engineering Technology of Kenya appreciate all participants for their engagement and collaboration. The President of the Institution of Engineering Technology of Kenya (IET-K), Bibiye Mahmoud Juma, today delivered a professional engagement talk to engineering students at Kirinyaga University, aimed at equipping them with insights as they transition from academia to professional practice.

In her address, the President emphasized that IET-K will continue to advocate for the recognition of Engineering Technologists and for expanded opportunities within both the public and private sectors. She highlighted the vital role played by technologists as implementers within the engineering value chain, translating engineering designs into practical projects and contributing significantly to the successful delivery of infrastructure and development initiatives.

She further encouraged students to register as Student Members of IET-K in order to benefit from professional networking, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to industry best practices that support their career development.

The President also reaffirmed IET-K’s commitment to strengthening mentorship programmes for Engineering Technologists to ensure that professional standards, competence, and ethical practice within the profession are upheld.

Also in attendance was the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB), Florence Kigo, who outlined the mandate and key functions of the Board. She emphasized the importance of professional registration and urged students and graduates to register with the Board as required under the Engineering Technology Act in order to practice legally and advance within the profession.

IET-K remains committed to nurturing the next generation of Engineering Technologists and strengthening the profession in Kenya.

The Institution of Engineering Technology of Kenya participated in the 2026 ASK EDORET NATIONAL SHOW organized by the Agricultural Society of Kenya held from Wednesday 4th -sunday 8th March 2026 to sensitize the stakeholders in attendance on why the Engineering Technology Professionals need to be registered and regulated by the government as the governement is working towards achieving vision 2030 and in support of the government bottom up economic agenda.

Engineering Technology Professionals must be recognized. The Engineering Technology Act of 2016 must be fully implemented. And Engineering Technology Professions must have a seat at the decision-making table.

They are the professionals who turn designs into reality.
