As part of today’s engagement, guests had an opportunity to watch two powerful films produced by creatives who participated in the Kenya Film Commission’s Film Capacity Building Programme at DeKUT in Nyeri in June.

Both films explored the theme of mental health, using film as a powerful tool to spark conversations, challenge perceptions and tell stories that resonate with lived experiences.

The screenings offered a glimpse into the talent being nurtured through KFC’s capacity-building initiatives and demonstrated how investing in creative skills can translate into meaningful stories and impactful productions.

From strengthening the skills of creatives to supporting their financial wellbeing, KFC continues to champion a holistic approach to building a vibrant, sustainable and resilient creative industry.

The wait is over!

The DeKUT–KFC Ultra-Modern Cinema Theatre has officially been launched and is now open to the public!

The facility was officially opened by Mr. Noah Otiende, Director, Department of Film Services, who represented Mr. Fikirini Katoi Jacobs, Principal Secretary, State Department for Youth Affairs and the Creative Economy, who served as the Chief Guest.
This milestone marks a new chapter for film exhibition, entertainment, talent development and the creative economy in Nyeri and beyond.

From showcasing Kenyan films and nurturing audiences to creating opportunities for filmmakers, students and creatives, the CineHub is set to become an important part of the region’s growing film ecosystem.

The screen is ready. The doors are open.

Upon arrival at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, our Guests received a brief orientation of the Kenya Film Commission–DeKUT Film Hub before proceeding to the official launch of the CineHub.

The Film Hub is designed to support talent development, skills transfer, creativity and practical filmmaking, providing young creatives with a platform to learn, experiment and grow within Kenya’s film industry.

The visit offered an opportunity to showcase the work being done to nurture the next generation of Kenyan storytellers and strengthen the creative ecosystem.

From the Film Hub to the big screen, today is about turning talent into opportunity.

The delegation, led by KFC Board Chairman, Sudi Wandabusi, has arrived at the DeKUT, Nyeri for the official launch of the ultra-modern cinema theatre.

The occasion is graced by Chief Guest PS Fikirini Jacobs, alongside Special Guest Mr. Joe Mucheru, former Cabinet Secretary for ICT and Broadcasting.

As we gear up for the official launch of the DeKUT CineHub tomorrow, the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) team paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Governor Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri County, alongside CECM for Trade, Tourism, Culture & Cooperative Development, Dr. Lucy Kiogora; CECM for Gender, Youth, Sports & Social Services, Esther Ndungu, and other county officials.

The discussions focused on one powerful opportunity: using film and storytelling to position Nyeri as a destination for investment, tourism and economic growth.

Film is more than entertainment. It creates opportunities across hospitality, transport and logistics, accommodation, catering, creative services and employment, contributing to the growth of the local economy.

Governor Mutahi Kahiga reiterated that Nyeri has incredible stories waiting to be told — from its coffee and agricultural heritage to its caves, landscapes, scouting history and rich cultural identity.

The county’s identity as the Scouts and Guides City, its collaboration with the World Scout Parliamentary Union, and plans for the Baden-Powell Centre of Excellence, in honour of Robert Baden-Powell and his wife Olave, present even more stories for the world to discover.

In June, KFC trained 139 students in filmmaking in Nyeri, with 40% drawn from the Nyeri community and 60% from DeKUT. Tomorrow, these young filmmakers will graduate as part of the CineHub launch.

Through the KFC–Nyeri County partnership and existing MoU, we are also working to streamline the support filmmakers need, including licences, permits and waivers, making Nyeri an even more film-friendly destination.

With World Tourism Day and Nyeri Tourism Week coming up on 25–26 September, the opportunity is clear.

As the Governor put it, we need to increase opportunities for youth, demystify film and tell the stories of Nyeri to the world.
