KEBS Profile
The mandate of KEBS includes, the development of Kenya Standards, dissemination of Standard Related Information, quality assurance, maintenance and dissemination of measurement standards, calibration of measurement and testing equipment, laboratory testing, product and quality systems certification, training and quality inspection of all imports. The mandate of KEBS achieves three key

objectives of: facilitating trade, protecting consumers from harmful and substandard goods and protection of the environment. KEBS is a member of several global standardization bodies including the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), East African Community (EAC) Standards Committee, Common markets for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Standards Committee, African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) and the World Trade Organization on TBT. KEBS is headquartered in Nairobi but has offices in other parts of the country. Today, we have offices in 18 counties and we will establish in more counties in the medium term.

The conversations were big, but the celebration? Even bigger!!

What a night! The 32nd ARSO General Assembly Gala Dinner came alive with music, pomp and celebration as Africa’s standards community marked an unforgettable evening.

The night reached its climax with the recognition of the Chief Guest Mr Felix Koskei, EGH Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, as Champion for Intra-African Trade and ARSO Goodwill Ambassador , a fitting honour for a champion of Africa’s trade ambitions


Also in attendance was, Principal Secretary State Department of Industry Dr. Juma Mukwana, CBS ARSO president , Botsile Kebapetse, ARSO Secretary General Dr. Hermogène Nsengimana , NSC Chair Hon Dr Chris Wamalwa, and KEBS Director General, Esther Ngari, EBS.

The celebrations continued with the award of the 13th ARSO Essay Competition winners, alongside other outstanding awards recognising excellence, innovation and commitment to Africa’s quality journey.

Indeed, from the first note to the final award, the night was a lcelebration of the people and ideas moving Africa forward

Driving Climate Action Through Standards.

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), in partnership with FSD Africa, is convening a National Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on ISO 14060, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen understanding and implementation of standards supporting climate action, greenhouse gas management and credible climate-related information.

Albert Nyagechi, the Assistant Deputy Director, Representing the KEBS Director of Standards, highlighted the importance of collaboration and stakeholder engagement in advancing robust standards that support Kenya’s transition towards a low-carbon and resilient economy.

The workshop provides a platform for stakeholders to share insights, build consensus and contribute to the development and adoption of standards that promote transparency, credibility and sustainable economic growth.
