Ever wonder about the stone statue on the Embassy grounds?

It is called “Dancing Birds” and was built by renowned Kenyan sculptor Professor Elkana Ong’esa.

Dancing Birds has a particularly meaningful place in the history of our two countries’ connections through art, education, cultural exchange, and a shared commitment to building stronger communities.

Commissioned by then-U.S. Ambassador Michael Ranneberger in 2007–2008, following Kenya’s post-election violence, the work connects Ong’esa’s artistry with a moment when peace, healing, and national unity carried profound significance.

Today, the sculpture remains a lasting reminder of the friendship between our two countries and how Kenyan artists like Professor Ong’esa have helped shape our shared story.

Yesterday we turned over a training complex to the Kenya Defence Forces which will provide the capacity to nearly triple the current class size of the National Defense College.

This important complex includes a four-story classroom and office building, a two-story library and an auditorium. It reflects not only an investment in infrastructure, but an investment in shared purpose, and in the future leaders who will pass through these halls.
