Kewopa Kenya KEWOPA is a caucus of all Women Parliamentarians in Kenya drawn from the National Assembly and Senate

Kenya Women Parliamentary Association [KEWOPA] is a membership association of all the women parliamentarians across political parties both elected and nominated in Senate and National Assembly. Its overall goal is to work towards ensuring that women and men are equitably represented in parliament and decision making in public and private spheres to promote sustainable development.

KEWOPA, in partnership with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Kenia, convened a strategic reflection and capacity-building engagement under the WYDE Political Parties Programme to strengthen female voices in Parliament through skills development and strategic networks.
The forum provided an opportunity to assess progress, reflect on the evolving political landscape, identify barriers facing women leaders, and refine KEWOPAโ€™s strategic priorities for the period ahead.
As part of the engagement, Hon. Beatrice Akinyi Oyomo Ogolla, Hon. Consolata Wakwabubi, and Hon. Jayne Kihara, MP shared candid reflections on the realities of womenโ€™s leadership in Parliament, highlighting challenges around visibility, cultural barriers, and media portrayal. They emphasized the importance of delivering with dignity and intentionally shaping public narratives around womenโ€™s leadership.
The discussion reinforced the need for women MPs to not only be spoken about, but to actively tell their own stories in clear, strategic, and impactful ways while strengthening their influence in governance and representation.

KEWOPA, in partnership with Uraia Trust and with support from Embassy of Denmark in Kenya and Somaliaark in Kenya, convened a town hall led by Hon. Anne Muratha, bringing together women leaders, youth groups, civil society, and electoral stakeholders to advance advocacy for greater participation of women in leadership and governance.
The forum created space for dialogue on barriers to women and youth participation in politics, electoral accountability, and practical strategies for strengthening inclusive governance through grassroots advocacy and policy engagement.

Emphasizing the importance of expanding womenโ€™s political participation, Hon. KEWOPA convened women legislators and stakeholders in the health sector for the launch of the Parliamentary Immunization Caucus, a strategic platform aimed at strengthening legislative leadership, financing advocacy and oversight in support of Kenyaโ€™s immunization programme.
The caucus will champion immunization as a national development priority and advance accountability in maternal, newborn and child health as Kenya prepares for transition from donor supported vaccine financing.
Speaking during the engagement, Senator Hon. Beatrice Akinyi Oyomo Ogolla underscored the urgency of sustained investment in health systems and immunization.
โ€œHealth is about saving lives and saving humanity. Every Kenyan child must be immunized. No mother deserves to lose her life while giving birth and no child should grow up without access to life saving vaccines,โ€ she said.
Convened in partnership with Health NGOs Network - Hennet and other health sector stakeholders, the engagement highlighted the need for increased domestic financing, dedicated immunization budget lines and timely release of funds to sustain vaccine access as external support reduces.
Stakeholders also reviewed findings from county immunization investment cases, which identified persistent challenges in vaccine supply, human resources, cold chain systems, service delivery equity and documentation.
Members of the caucus committed to leveraging their legislative, budgetary and oversight mandates to strengthen immunization financing and ensure no child is left behind.
The launch marks an important step in advancing sustainable immunization financing and equitable healthcare access for children across the country.

Building safe political ecosystems for women in politics is no longer theoretical; it reflects lived realities shaped by exclusion, resilience, and the need for reform.
At a convening by the The Nordic Africa Institute in partnership with Kenya Women Parliamentary Association, leaders and practitioners interrogated the gap between constitutional guarantees and the everyday experiences of women in politics. Political spaces remain unequal, with women facing physical, psychological, economic, and digital violence that limits participation and leadership, even as more women step forward to vie for office.
The panel drew from political leadership and advocacy, sharing lived experience and practical insight on what works, what fails, and what must change. Key issues included accountability for perpetrators, stronger institutional response, and safer digital and grassroots political spaces.
A clear message emerged: building safer political ecosystems requires sustained collaboration across institutions, stronger enforcement of existing frameworks, and deliberate investment in protecting and empowering women in leadership.
The work continues, with a call for institutions, political actors, and citizens to move from commitment to action and build systems that guarantee safety, accountability, and equal participation for women in politics.

KEWOPA formalized a strategic partnership with Oxfam Kenya through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at advancing gender justice in Kenya.
This collaboration will strengthen joint efforts on the care agenda and promote transformative womenโ€™s leadership, while enhancing parliamentary engagement on governance, budget advocacy, and accountability. The partnership also prioritizes addressing gender-based violence, including violence against women in politics, and will support legislative and policy influence, oversight, and equitable public resource allocation.
Through this partnership, KEWOPA remains committed to ensuring that national priorities are effectively translated into meaningful, measurable improvements in the lives of women and girls across the country.
