The National Crime Research Centre on Wednesday hosted Prospect Peace Institute Africa (PPI-Africa) for a consultative meeting to explore areas for collaboration in crime research, peace and security, and evidence-based policy development.

Led by NCRC Ag. Director Dr. Julius Mwangi and PPI-Africa Executive Chairman Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Adan K. Mulata, the meeting provided a platform to explore joint research, knowledge sharing, capacity building, policy dialogue and resource mobilisation.

The engagement marked a significant step towards forging a strategic partnership that will turn research and evidence into actionable solutions, strengthen crime prevention and peacebuilding efforts, and contribute to safer, more peaceful and resilient communities.

National Crime Research Centre- NCRC has this afternoon signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MIDRIFT HURINET, marking an important step towards strengthening collaboration in crime management.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, NCRC Acting Director, Dr. Julius Mwangi, noted that the partnership presents an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration, knowledge sharing and evidence-based interventions towards more effective crime prevention and management.

MIDRIFT HURINET Executive Director, Mr. Joseph Omondi, welcomed the partnership, noting that the MoU provides a framework for the two institutions to work together in areas of mutual interest and leverage their respective strengths towards achieving shared objectives.

The MoU seeks to strengthen collaboration through research, information and knowledge sharing, capacity building and other areas of mutual interest, contributing toward a more peaceful and safer country.

National Crime Research Centre- NCRC led by Acting CEO Dr. Julius Mwangi, paid a courtesy call on the Principal Secretary, State Department for Economic Planning, Dr. Bonface Barasa Makokha , at the National Treasury.

The engagement provided an opportunity for NCRC to brief the PS on the Centre’s mandate and explore how NCRC’s research and evidence can contribute to Kenya’s development agenda beyond Vision 2030, particularly in informing policy, planning and decision-making.

Present at the meeting was Dr. Masini Ichwara, Director General, State Department for Economic Planning, alongside officials from both institutions.

NCRC participated in the 5th Regional Research Conference, themed “Strengthening Land Governance for Sustainable National Economic Development,” held at the Kenya School of Government, Kabete.

Organised by the National Land Commission, the two-day conference brought together stakeholders from government and non-governmental institutions, civil society, academia, research institutions and policy circles to deliberate on strengthening land governance systems as a foundation for land security, economic growth and sustainable development.

Representing NCRC, Mr. Eric Kwena, Research Analyst, presented a study titled “Crime, Conflict and Contestation: Implications of Insecure Land Governance for Law, Order and Economic Development in Kenya.”

The study draws on findings from NCRC’s Baseline Survey on Land-Related Crimes in Kenya (2020) and highlights the link between land governance, crime and conflict, underscoring the importance of secure and effective land governance in promoting law and order and advancing sustainable national economic development.

NCRC has commenced data collection for a study on the Effectiveness of the Court-Annexed Alternative Justice System (AJS) in the Management of Misdemeanours in Kenya.

The exercise, being conducted across eight counties this August, seeks to generate evidence to strengthen alternative justice mechanisms and contribute to improved access to justice across Kenya.

NCRC, Archdiocese of Mombasa and Tangaza University on Monday held a consultative meeting at the NCRC Boardroom to explore joint efforts to address human trafficking in Kenya.

Led by Acting Director Dr. Julius Mwangi, the NCRC team discussed opportunities for joint research, policy engagement, information sharing and community-based interventions.

The proposed research will focus on identifying gaps in existing systems that hinder efforts to prevent and combat human trafficking, and propose practical solutions.

The partners also discussed developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a framework for sustained collaboration in research, advocacy and interventions against human trafficking.

NCRC participated in the National Multi-Stakeholder Convening on Political Goonism and Hired Violence ahead of the 2027 General Elections, held under the theme “Ending Political Goonism: Towards Safe, Peaceful, Free and Fair Elections in Kenya.”

Representing NCRC, Deputy Director, Crime Research, Dr. Tioko Logiron presented findings from NCRC’s research on the proliferation and resilience of criminal gangs in Kenya. He also joined a panel discussion on Mapping Political Goonism and Kenya’s Legal-Institutional Architecture, alongside National Police Service Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga and other stakeholders.

The discussions highlighted the importance of research and continued documentation of crime trends as tools for crime prevention.

The convening brought together stakeholders from the Centre for Human Rights and Policy Studies (CHRIPS), International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) Kenya, IPOA, National Police Service, IMLU, Kenya Union of Journalists, academia and other partners.

NCRC today held a consultative meeting with the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) to explore opportunities for collaboration in research and other areas of mutual interest aimed at strengthening the fight against emerging financial crimes.

The NCRC delegation, led by Deputy Director Dr. Tioko Logiron, presented key thematic areas for potential collaboration, including financial fraud, insider trading, market manipulation, and other forms of white-collar crime. The discussions also explored opportunities for information sharing and joint initiatives to enhance the integrity of Kenya's financial sector.

The CMA delegation was led by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Wycliffe Shamiah, accompanied by officers from the Authority's Investigations and Enforcement Department.
