The residents of Sikulu Village in Likuyani Constituency, Kakamega County now have something to smile about after the Sikulu Rural Electrification Project was officially commissioned today by the Cabinet Secretary for Energy & Petroleum Hon. Opiyo Wandayi accompanied by the area Member of Parliament Hon. Innocent Mugabe.

The project now connects 128 homesteads to reliable electricity at a cost of Ksh 5.7 million.

It is a powerful step forward for the people of Likuyani Constituency, proving once again how access to electricity uplifts communities and strengthens essential services.

Today, residents of Lugulu Village in Butula Constituency, Busia County, came together as the Head of Public Service, Hon. Felix Koskei, commissioned the Lugulu Village Electrification Project. Hon. Koskei was accompanied by our CEO, Dr. Rose Mkalama, as the community marked this remarkable milestone.
For the 201 customers now connected to electricity, this moment is about more than switching on the lights. It is about having more time to work, learn and connect; about businesses having more room to grow; and about a community with greater possibilities ahead.

Kisii County Commissioner, Mr. James Kamau, today chaired a delivery meeting at his office focused exclusively on Kisii County projects. The session brought together over 20 state agencies, underscoring the government’s commitment to coordinated delivery of national priorities at the county level.

The meeting reviewed progress on rural electrification and other flagship initiatives, with emphasis on progress tracking, stakeholder coordination, and community engagement.

The Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) was represented by Barnabas Otieno, Kisii County Supervisor, and Zadock Cheruiyot of Nyamira. The Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) was represented by Mr. Josiah Kodjo, reinforcing the unit’s role in tracking, verifying, and communicating government priorities.

Key challenges, including logistical bottlenecks and resource allocation, were discussed, with practical interventions proposed. The meeting concluded with consensus on commissioning timelines, accountability frameworks, and enhanced communication strategies to mobilize communities and highlight government achievements.

The Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Hon. Opiyo Wandayi today flagged off construction materials for Ebuhamwe - Emukhaye Rural electrification Project in Imanyika Village, West Marama Ward, Butere Constituency in Kakamega County alongside the Area MP, Hon. Tindi Mwale and the Kakamega County Deputy Governor Ayub Savula among other local leaders.

This project will benefit 184 households at a cost of 13 million.

As REREC, we are powering homes, businesses, schools, and health facilities, driving economic growth across the country.

REREC was represented by the Ag West Kenya Regional Manager Eng Felix Itapara together with other regional staff members.

Delegates from *D**g Fang Electronics, led by Vice General Manager Gavin Xu, paid a courtesy call to REREC to explore opportunities for strategic collaboration in advancing Kenya's energy transition through innovative technologies.

The meeting, led on behalf of REREC by Eng. Fred Ishugah, focused on emerging solutions in smart grids, smart energy systems, and smart city technologies. Discussions explored how digital infrastructure, intelligent energy management, and modern grid technologies can strengthen electricity distribution, improve operational efficiency, and support the country's growing demand for reliable and sustainable energy.

The engagement reflects REREC's commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that leverage global expertise, innovation, and technology to accelerate universal access to electricity while supporting Kenya's broader sustainable development and energy transformation agenda.
