What’s Next in Youth Entrepreneurship

As communities and countries increasingly encourage entrepreneurs who create jobs, youth remain as a largely untapped source for large-scale economic growth. Youth unemployment remains a global challenge and accelerating entrepreneurship among millennials would be a large step in the right direction. This session will explore education, mentoring and acceleration programs to foster entrepreneurship among this younger demographic.

How do we inspire youth entrepreneurship? How can we mentor youth in business? How can we accelerate youth-owned businesses to scale and become sustainable?

What’s Next in Global Data Sharing

Government data on new and young businesses is an important resource for ecosystem leaders as they can reveal patterns in terms of job churn, economic mobility and more. Our goal as GEN is to find, unlock, and promote the next generation of government data that policymakers can use to foster entrepreneurship, develop new tools and create jobs. Open data from governments is also a crucial resource, serving as fuel for entrepreneurship, innovation, scientific discovery, and other public benefits. This session will explore examples of free public data infrastructures that can be tapped to generate new ideas and build new businesses.

What’s Next in Startup Accelerators

Over the past several years there has been an explosion of accelerator programs to help rapidly scale new startups – and the debate continues on whether we are in the midst of an ‘accelerator bubble’. While there is minimal data available to definitively answer that question, there are promising models emerging that offer insights into key catalyzer ingredients in accelerators and similar programs. This session will examine the rapid growth in startup accelerators, spotlight examples of successful programs and identify new approaches to compile data that can help refine the model and help entrepreneurs grow.

What’s Next in Ecosystem Metrics & Mapping

With the proliferation of resources available to entrepreneurs, there is a growing need for better diagnostic tools to detect weak and strong points in any given ecosystem – as well as for effective methods to assess the impact of any particular intervention in a given ecosystem. Efforts to map ecosystems at the local, national and even global levels are a critical first step but decision makers from all backgrounds – entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, practitioners and more – need more and better data to guide their actions.
