Celebrating a New Chapter for FAWE Seychelles!

We are delighted to announce the new Executive Committee of the FAWE Seychelles Chapter, led by Hon. Merna Eulentin as Chairperson.
This milestone marks a renewed commitment to advancing girls' education and gender equity across the islands of Seychelles, and we look forward to witnessing the impactful initiatives that will unfold under this dynamic leadership. As we embrace this new era, we also extend our deepest gratitude to the outgoing Executive Committee for their steadfast dedication and remarkable resilience. Despite navigating considerable challenges, their unwavering efforts have laid a solid foundation and built a strong bridge for the future of the Chapter.

We are grateful to Hon. Simone Marie-Anne de Comarmond, FAWE Africa Board Member and Immediate Former Chairperson, whose presence and guidance have been invaluable throughout this transition. Strengthening Partnerships for Girls' Education Across Africa 🤝📚

FAWE Africa was delighted to host Dr. Stephanie Wirba, Global President of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network, alongside Josephine, President of the YAWC Centre, for a courtesy visit at the FAWE Regional Secretariat.

The meeting, attended by FAWE's Deputy Executive Director and Head of Programmes, Ms. Teresa Omondi-Adeitan, provided an opportunity to share experiences, celebrate existing partnerships—including the MoU between YAWC and FAWE Rwanda—and explore new avenues for collaboration.

United by a shared commitment to advancing girls' education, preventing gender-based violence, and empowering vulnerable and out-of-school girls through mentorship and advocacy, FAWE and YAWC look forward to strengthening partnerships that create lasting impact for girls and young women across Africa.

🇷🇼 Strengthening Safeguarding, Accountability and Organisational Excellence at FAWE Rwanda!

FAWE Rwanda has successfully completed a five-day training on Safeguarding, Financial Management, ERP and Procurement, equipping staff and leadership with practical knowledge and skills to strengthen safeguarding, financial accountability, risk management and organisational effectiveness.

The training, facilitated by Crispus Natala, FAWE Africa Safeguarding Officer, and Catherine Mwangi, FAWE Africa Finance Officer, culminated in the awarding of certificates of completion to all participants. 👏🏾🎓

By investing in the capacity of our teams, FAWE continues to strengthen a culture of safety, accountability, transparency and excellence across the network, ensuring we create safe and supportive environments for both our staff and the communities we serve.

FAWE Uganda is today holding the FAWE/Mastercard Foundation Bursary Award Ceremony at the Uganda Petroleum Institute, Kigumba, Uganda.

The ceremony is graced by the State Minister of Uganda, Hon. Phyllis Chemutai, as the Chief Guest, alongside representatives from the FAWE Regional Secretariat, FAWE Uganda, and other key education stakeholders.

A total of 818 bursaries are being awarded to young people drawn from 65 districts across Uganda. The beneficiaries are expected to enroll in the Higher Education Access Certificate (HEAC) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, creating pathways for them to access tertiary education and develop relevant skills for employment and sustainable livelihoods.

The FAWE Regional Secretariat is represented by Richard Chelagat, Finance and Administration Director. In his remarks, he emphasized that the programme is being implemented across 10 countries and targets 10,550 young people who, through circumstances beyond their control, were denied their first opportunity to pursue tertiary education.

Through this partnership, FAWE and the Mastercard Foundation continue to advance equitable access to education, skills development, and meaningful opportunities for young people across Africa.

Institutional Anchoring and Strategic Engagement: Advancing Skills Development and Gender-Responsive TVET in The Gambia

On 30 July 2026, a high-level FAWE delegation—comprising Ms. Oley Dibba Wadda, FAWE Africa Board Member; Dr. Martha Muhwezi, Executive Director of FAWE Africa; Dr. Koly Fall, Knowledge Management Officer; and Ms. Yadi Njie, National Coordinator of FAWE Gambia—held a pivotal working session with Dr. Samba Sowe, Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS) of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology.

The meeting marked a significant step forward in deepening and institutionalizing the partnership between the Ministry and FAWE Gambia, with a clear and shared vision for transforming the country’s skills development landscape. Central to the discussions were three strategic pillars: scaling up STEM education, enhancing the quality and relevance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and mainstreaming Gender-Responsive Pedagogy for TVET (GRP4TVET)—a critical lever for ensuring that training systems are both inclusive and attuned to the needs of the labor market.

A key outcome of this engagement was the agreement in principle to formalize collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) , which will provide a robust institutional framework for joint action, resource mobilization, and sustainable impact. To ensure efficient coordination and follow-through, the DPS has designated Ms. Coumba Djammeh as the dedicated Focal Point within the Ministry, tasked with steering internal coordination and supporting the expeditious development of the MoU.

This emerging partnership exemplifies the power of institutional anchoring—grounding FAWE’s advocacy and programmatic interventions within national policy architectures. By forging structured, high-level partnerships with key government entities, FAWE Gambia is not only amplifying its influence but also ensuring that gender-transformative approaches to education and skills development become embedded in public policy and practice.
