Ruto Commissions Yussuf Haji Girls School, Hands Over Bus, and Breaks Ground for Housing in Masalani

Masalani | 29 November 2025

President William Ruto on Saturday inaugurated the newly refurbished Yussuf Haji Girls Secondary School in Masalani, Ijara Sub-County, marking a significant boost to girls’ education in Kenya’s North Eastern region.

The secondary school, renamed in honour of the late Senator Mohamed Yussuf Haji for his enduring contributions to public service and education, now features upgraded infrastructure including a modern dining hall and three twin science laboratories designed to enhance learning outcomes and strengthen STEM instruction for girls in the region.

In a moment that drew loud cheers, President Ruto handed over a brand-new school bus to the institution. Addressing the jubilant students, he remarked, ā€œSasa warembo mko na bus,ā€ encouraging them to work hard now that they have reliable transport. The new bus is expected to significantly improve mobility and safety for boarding students in this remote part of the county.

The Head of State also presided over the groundbreaking for Phase II of the school’s development, which will deliver additional classrooms and essential facilities to support rising enrolment. He commended the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) for enabling such transformative projects and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding equitable access to quality education nationwide.

Earlier in the day, Ruto launched the 376-unit Masalani Affordable Housing Project in Ijara Constituency, laying the foundation stone to kick off construction of the initiative aimed at providing decent, low-cost homes for residents in the arid region. The project, part of the national Affordable Housing Programme, is expected to create jobs, stimulate the local economy, and address housing shortages in marginalized communities.

Later in the day, President Ruto joined family, dignitaries, and community leaders at the Nikkah ceremony of Mohammed Noordin Mohamed Haji, son of National Intelligence Service Director-General Noordin Haji, held in Masalani town.

The elegant, all-white Islamic wedding drew several high-profile attendees including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Cabinet Secretaries Aden Duale, Kipchumba Murkomen, ODM leader Dr. Oburu Odinga, a host of governors and Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), who travelled from Somalia to grace the occasion.

The Emirates Stadium turned into a roaring furnace of red-hot euphoria on Sunday evening as Arsenal obliterated Tottenham Hotspur 4-1, tightening their grip at the Premier League summit and stretching their lead to a six-point cushion that now feels immovable.

At the epicenter of this North London earthquake – Arsenal’s fourth consecutive derby victory, a run unmatched since 1989 – stood Eberechi Eze. The dazzling playmaker delivered a hat-trick of such artistry, audacity, and authority that it instantly carved his name into Gunners lore like a lightning bolt across the Highbury skyline.

The match began with the customary growl of derby tension, but Arsenal tore the script to shreds with an unrelenting assault that left Spurs shredded and staggering.

Leandro Trossard lit the fuse in the 36th minute with a deflected effort that looped wickedly over Guglielmo Vicario, sending the home crowd into defiant delirium. Moments later, Eze – the summer transfer swoop that Spurs failed to land and now surely regret – pirouetted through a collapsing white wall, slaloming past sprawled defenders before burying Arsenal’s second with ruthless accuracy.

Halftime brought no respite. Just 46 seconds into the restart, Eze pounced again, lashing in a venomous strike that Vicario could only swipe at as Arsenal’s advantage ballooned into a canyon.

Tottenham, languishing in ninth and short of spark, briefly pierced the gloom when Richarlison detonated a 40-yard thunderbolt in the 55th minute, a stunning strike that screamed defiance but did little to disguise the tactical catastrophe unfolding behind him. A defensively overloaded back five offered no creativity, no threat, and no answer to Arsenal’s suffocating press orchestrated by the imperious William Saliba.

Sensing a rout, the Emirates faithful turned conductor, chanting ā€œNorth London foreverā€ as mocking ā€œolĆ©sā€ cascaded across the stands.

Bukayo Saka, goal-less yet devastating, threaded chaos through the Spurs flanks, while Declan Rice’s pin-sharp corners nearly set up a towering Saliba header in the 74th minute, Vicario once more rescuing Spurs from deeper indignity.

Eze, though, was unstoppable. In the 76th minute, Riccardo Calafiori’s slick reverse ball sliced open the Spurs back line; Eze ghosted beyond Issa Sarr, accelerated into daylight, and drilled home his third with chilling composure. It was the first Arsenal hat-trick in a North London Derby since Alan Sunderland in 1978. His teammates swarmed him, thrusting the match ball into his arms as the stadium bathed him in adulation. He nearly added a fourth, forcing another fingertip save before daring to lob Vicario from near his own penalty area.

The closing minutes descended into frayed tempers and off-the-ball skirmishes involving Rice, Xavi Simons, Pedro Porro, Richarlison, and Saliba. Cards were shown, substitutions rolled in – Trossard for Madueke, Spence for Porro, Kudus for Johnson – but the narrative was already cemented. Arsenal’s late changes, including Ethan Nwaneri replacing Mikel Merino and Cristhian Mosquera stepping in for the injured Piero HincapiĆ©, simply kept the engines humming until Myles Lewis-Skelly relieved Calafiori amid Kolo Muani’s reckless foul.

This was not merely a derby win. It was an emphatic declaration of supremacy, a humiliation that Tottenham will struggle to scrub from memory. As Eze raised his eyes skyward in tribute, Arsenal stared down at a Premier League landscape that now tilts unmistakably in their favor.

North London is red. The Gunners are roaring, and after this demolition, the echoes will linger for a long time.

LIVERPOOL, Englā€and | 22 November 2025

On an afteā€Œrnoon that will scar the Kop’s collective memory,ā€ Nottingham Forest – relegation-ā€Œzone baā€ttlers with nā€othing to lose – sā€Œtoā€rmed Anfield like a vengefuā€l battalion, thrashing Liverpool 3-ā€Œ0 in a Premier League massacre thaā€Œt laid bare everā€Œy fault line in Arne Slā€Œot’s disintegrating reign.

The defending championsā€, once Eā€urope’s apex predatorsā€, are now a shell-shocked shaā€Œdow: eight defeats in 11 matches, six league losses in seā€ven, and a humiliating sā€lide into the table’s bā€Œottom half, eight points behiā€nd leaders Arsenal.ā€

Under Anfield’s brooding November sky, 54,000 hopefuls arrived yearning for revivā€Œal. Instead, they witnessed a mutiny.ā€ Forā€est flipped the script frā€Œom minā€Œute one, abā€Œsorā€bing Liverpool’s early sā€parks – Alā€Œeā€Œxis Mac Allister’s fierā€ce drive brilliantly hacked off the line by Elliotā€ Anā€derson, Milos Kerkez’s piledā€river smotheredā€Œ atā€Œ the last gasp – beforā€Œe exposing theā€Œ Reds’ brittle underbelly.

The detonation came in the 30th minute. Andersā€on’s wicā€ked cuā€Œrlinā€g corner snaked intoā€ the six-yā€Œard boā€xā€Œ; Virgil van Dijk’s desā€perā€ate header only coā€Œmpounded the chaos. The ball fellā€ to Murillo, who unleashed a venomous finish past Alisson Beā€cker. VAR upheld it – no offside, no obstruction from Necā€Œo Wiā€Œlā€liams – just sheer, stomach-churning miā€Œsfortune for tā€he hosts.ā€ Anfield’s roar collapsed intā€o aā€Œ stunned, hollow siā€lence.

Foā€Œrestā€ nearly doubled the torment before the break. Igor Jesus rose to nod home aā€fter Ibrahima Konaté’s clumsy clā€earance from an Ibrahiā€Œm SangarĆ© cross, but VAR spared Liverpool with aā€Œ handball rulinā€g. The Reds staggered into tā€he interval trailing, Mohamed Salā€Œah’s glittering touches dissolving iā€nto dead ends.

Any hope of a second-half rā€Œevival died instantly. Barely seconds after kickoff, a rutā€Œhless Forest counterā€Œ punished Mac Allister’s hesitation. Williams sliced through Liverpool’s flank and deliā€Œvered a laser-guided ball to Nicolò Savona, who dispatched a cold, clinicā€al finish inā€to Aā€Œlisson’s tā€Œop corner. 2-0ā€. Anfield’s auā€Œra shattered.

Kā€onaté’s hellish afternoonā€Œ ended withā€Œ a 55th-minute hooā€k; Alexander Isak’s ghostlike 68-minuteā€Œ camā€Œeo met thā€Œe samā€e fate. Slot threw on Federico Cā€hiesa andā€ Rio Ngumoā€Œha in desperation, but the stage waā€Œs already set for catastrophe.

The fatalā€ blowā€ arrivā€Œed late. Omariā€ Hutchinson forced Alissā€Œon into a sharp saā€Œve, only for Morgan Gā€ibā€Œbsā€Œ-Wā€Œhite – coā€ndā€Œuctor of Foā€reā€Œst’s entire uprising – to pouā€nce andā€ hammer home the rā€Œebound, sealing a 3-0 annihiā€latioā€Œn. Gibbs-ā€Wā€Œhite didn’t just score; he orchestrated, slicing Liverpool apart with icy compoā€Œsure andā€Œ relentless menace.

As tā€Œhe finā€al whistlā€Œe shrieked, Anā€Œfield emā€ptied in a fog of disbelief. Slot ragā€Œed about set-piece frailty and transiā€tion failuresā€. Van Dā€ijk fumedā€ at referee Andy Madley’s deā€cisā€Œions – ā€œā€ŒJust like City,ā€ he growled – but gā€rievances could not disā€guise thā€e collaā€pse unfolding before them. Foreā€st’s bench, meanwhile,ā€Œ erupted in delirium as theirā€ manā€Œaā€ger hailed tā€Œhe display asā€ ā€œaudaciā€Œous, discā€iplinedā€, unforgettable.ā€ A second straā€Œight triumph at Anfieldā€Œ, chiselled into club folklore.

For Liverpool, this isā€ no blip. It is a tectonic rupture. The juā€Œggernaut tā€hat once terrorized Euroā€Œpe is now splintered, with Slot’s honeymoonā€ long entoā€mbed beneath a defense in openā€Œ crisis. Salah shimmered then vanished. Kā€ŒonatĆ© unrā€Œavelled. Isak evaporated. The squad looā€Œks unmoorā€Œed, driftā€Œing towā€aā€rā€Œd oblivion.

As Forestā€Œ marcā€hed inā€Œto theā€ Merseysiā€de mist with three monumental points, thā€Œe question lingers like sā€moke oā€ver the Kop: Can Lā€iverpool claw theiā€Œr way bacā€k from this wrā€Œeckage – or is this the death rattle of an era?

The Premier League roars on, but tonightā€, Liveā€rpool sā€Œtands asā€Œ a fallen giant,ā€Œ humbā€Œled by tā€he underdogs who dared toā€Œ bare theā€ir teeth.

The declaratiā€Œon, posted onā€ his officiaā€l Truth Social account, tā€Œaā€rgets a decades-oldā€ humanitarian program thaā€t has shielded Somali immigrants from deportation aā€Œmid ongoing instability in Somalia.

ā€œI am, as President of the United States, hereby tā€Œerminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Pā€Œrotected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota,ā€ Trump wrote.

He accused the state, led by Democraticā€Œ Gov. Tim Walz, of being a ā€œhubā€ of fraudulentā€ money laundering activity,ā€ā€ allegingā€Œ that ā€œSomali gangs are terrorizing the people of that greā€Œatā€Œ State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing.ā€

The announcement cā€omes against the backdrop of Minā€nesota’s major child-nutrition fraud scandal, including tā€he ā€œFeeding Our Fuā€Œtureā€ case in which millions in feā€deraā€l funds were allegedly diveā€Œrted.

A recent report by the conservative Manhattan Institute suggested soā€me of the proceeds may have reached Somalia’s Al-Shabaab militā€Œant group, thoā€Œugh federal authorities hā€ave not confirmed such liā€nks. Trump did not provide evidence to substantiateā€Œ his claims.

TPS, createdā€Œ in 1990, isā€ a national designation rather thanā€Œ a sā€tā€ate-specific program. Terminatā€ions require publicatioā€Œn in theā€ Federal Register, and the Departā€Œment of Homelaā€nd Security must unwiā€Œnd the program for alā€Œl beneficā€Œiaries natā€Œionwide.

As of March 2025, oā€Œnly 70ā€Œ5 Somali nationals across tā€he United States held active TPSā€ status, far fewer than the roughly 87,000 Somali-Americans living in Minnesota.

Immigration eā€xperts and attorneys said the Presidenā€t’s action is hiā€ghly unusā€uaā€Œl and may not be legally enforceable without a broader federal termination. Jā€Œulia Decker ofā€Œ the Immigrant Law Center oā€Œf Minnesota noted that ā€œTPā€S is noā€t a staā€te-by-state prograā€m,ā€ and ending it wouā€ld require DHS to terminate the deā€signation foā€r all Somā€Œali TPS holders.

Neithā€er the White House nor DHS has released implementatioā€Œnā€ guidance, leaving the immediate legal effā€Œect unclear. Advocacy groups are preparing to cā€Œhaā€Œllenge thā€Œe decision, arguing that it violates procedural rules and humanitarian protections.

The announcement tā€riggered swiā€ft polā€itical backlash. Rep. Ilhan Omarā€Œ, D-Minn., a Somali refuā€gee who now represents Minneapolisā€, responded on X: ā€œI am a citizeā€n aā€Œnd so are majority of Somalis in Ameriā€ca. Good luck celebratiā€ng a policy change that doesn’t have much impact on the Somalis you love to hate.ā€ Gov. Walz accused the President of ā€œbroadly tarā€Œgetiā€ng anā€ entire communityā€ to diveā€Œrt public attention from other issueā€s.

Civil rights leaders also condemned the decision. Jaylani Hussein, executive director of CAIR–Minnesota, described it aā€s ā€œa politā€ical attaā€ck oā€Œn the Soā€mali and Muslim community driven bā€Œy Islamophā€Œobā€Œia,ā€ warning that it could separate fā€Œamilies and send individuals back to a country they have not known for decades. Republican leadersā€ in the state praised the move, with House Speaker Lisa Demuth stating she was ā€œglā€adā€ the President recā€Œognized ā€œthe seriousness of the fraud problem.ā€ā€‹

Minneā€Œsotaā€ā€™s Somā€Œali community—the largest iā€Œn the United States—has become deeply integraā€ted into thā€Œeā€Œ state’s econoā€miā€c, cultural, and polā€Œitiā€cal landscape over the past tā€Œhree decades.

Trump’s announcement stirred anxiety and confusioā€Œn within the community, wā€ith many seeking clarity on whether tā€Œhe decision has imā€Œmā€ediate legā€al consequences. As of Saturday morniā€ng, DHS had nā€ot provided enforcement detaiā€Œls. Immigration courts and legal service proā€Œvā€idersā€ in Minnesotā€a aā€re pā€Œreparinā€Œg for a suā€Œrge in inquiries as residents aā€ttempt tā€Œo uā€nderstand the implicā€Œations.

The decision places Minnesota at the center oā€Œf aā€ broader national debate over immigratā€ion, nationaā€l security, and presidenā€Œtial authority, inteā€nsifyingā€Œ the paā€rā€Œtisanā€Œ divide over how the United States should resā€pond to fraud allegations, refugee reseā€ttlement, and humanitarian protectionsā€Œ.
