Nacada Kenya National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) NACADA was established by an Act of Parliament on 24th July, 2012.

This is the official page of the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse- NACADA. Its main focus is on demand reduction, which involves providing preventive education, public awareness, life skills, treatment, rehabilitation and psycho-social support to the general public. It also contributes towards supply suppression through policy formulation and capacity building. Its vision is to see a nation free from the negative effects of alcohol and drug abuse in Kenya.

PLANTING TREES AND EMPOWERING LEARNERS IN BOMET. 🌱📚

Our Bomet County Office participated in a tree-planting activity where 250 trees were planted at Kapsimotwo Secondary School.

Later, we conducted an Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ADA) prevention sensitization session for 320 students. Life skills were also emphasized, focusing on overcoming pressure and making informed choices. These skills are essential for navigating the challenges of adolescence and resisting negative peer influence.

The session covered the risks and effects of substance use, the importance of making healthy choices, and the support services available. We also shared our toll-free helpline 1192 for counselling, information, and referrals.

We are grateful to Kapsimotwo Secondary School for their partnership and for hosting us. We remain committed to promoting environmental conservation and substance use prevention in Bomet County.

SHOWCASING OUR MANDATE AT THE MASHUJAA DAY THEMATIC WEEK EXHIBITION. 🏟️

Our Uasin-Gishu County Coordination Office is participating in the Mashujaa Day Thematic Week Exhibition at The Eldoret National Polytechnic, ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations in Uasin-Gishu County.

The exhibition provides a strategic platform to enhance the Authority's brand visibility, showcase its mandate, and highlight its interventions in alcohol and drug abuse prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Through direct public engagement, the team is creating awareness of programmes targeting families, schools, workplaces, out-of-school youth, and the wider community, while promoting healthy lifestyles, early help-seeking, and access to appropriate treatment and rehabilitation services. Visitors to our stand are learning about our work and how they can access support.

Members of the public are also being sensitized on our toll-free helpline 1192 for counselling, support, and referrals.

DAY 1: TAKING PREVENTION TO MODOGASHE, GARISSA COUNTY. 🚐

Day 1 of our Garissa County Roadshow kicked off with sensitization to residents of Modogashe on the dangers of Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ADA).

We engaged the community on the risks and effects of substance use, including the impact on health, families, and community safety. We emphasized the importance of making healthy choices, resisting peer pressure, and seeking help when needed.

We also shared our toll-free helpline 1192 for counselling, information, and referrals. We encouraged residents to report suspicious activities and support those affected by substance abuse to seek help.

The roadshow provided a valuable platform to reach the community with prevention messages and to engage in open dialogue about the challenges of substance abuse. The response from residents was encouraging.

We remain committed to reaching communities at the grassroots level with prevention messages and support services.

EMPOWERING PEER COUNSELORS AND STUDENT LEADERS AT WOTE TTI. 🎓

Our Makueni County Office conducted an Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ADA) prevention and management sensitization for peer counselors, educators, and student leaders at Wote Technical Training Institute.

Mental health issues and their connection to alcohol and drug abuse were extensively discussed. Substance use can worsen mental health conditions, and mental health challenges can increase vulnerability to substance use. Addressing both together is essential for effective prevention and support.

The forum was attended by the Deputy Principal, staff members, and the Guidance and Counselling Coordinator. The activity aimed to raise awareness, promote mental health, and encourage students to make informed choices and support each other for a healthy lifestyle.

We also shared our toll-free helpline 1192 for counselling, information, and referrals. Peer counselors and student leaders are uniquely positioned to support their peers and promote prevention within the institution.

PLANTING FRUIT TREES AND GROWING A GREENER MACHAKOS. 🌳

Our Machakos County Office today participated in a tree-planting activity at Kyanguli Primary and Junior School in Machakos Sub-County.

A total of 203 fruit trees were successfully planted, contributing to the national tree-growing and forest-cover enhancement efforts. Fruit trees are particularly valuable as they provide food, income, and environmental benefits, while also teaching learners about the importance of sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship.

We took the opportunity to sensitize the learners on alcohol and drug abuse prevention, emphasizing the connection between a healthy environment, positive lifestyles, and community wellbeing. We also shared our toll-free helpline 1192 for counselling, information, and referrals.

PROTECTING THE DREAMS OF THE GIRL CHILD IN KISUMU. 👧🏾

Our Kisumu Office, in collaboration with various partners, participated in the International Day of the Girl Child.

The event brought together representatives from various schools and settings. Our NACADA team was allowed to talk about how drugs of abuse could destroy the dreams of the girl child.

We discussed how substance abuse can derail education, destroy career aspirations, lead to early pregnancies, expose girls to exploitation and violence, and undermine their health and wellbeing. We emphasized that every girl has the right to dream, to learn, and to thrive in a safe, drug-free environment.

We encouraged the girls to make informed choices, resist peer pressure, seek help when needed, and support one another. We also shared our toll-free helpline 1192 for counselling, information, and referrals.

We remain committed to protecting and empowering the girl child through prevention and awareness. We are grateful to all the partners and schools that participated in this important event.

PROMOTING POSITIVE PARENTING FOR A DRUG-FREE GENERATION IN UASIN GISHU. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Our Uasin-Gishu County Coordination Team participated in a public baraza at Kimoning, Moiben Sub-County, Uasin-Gishu County, to promote positive parenting as a critical pillar in preventing alcohol and drug abuse among children and young people.

The engagement emphasized the importance of effective parent-child communication, positive role modelling, responsible supervision, setting clear boundaries, and early identification of behavioural changes that may signal vulnerability to substance use. Parents play a critical role in shaping their children's values, attitudes, and behaviours.

Parents were encouraged to nurture supportive home environments, strengthen family relationships, and work closely with schools and community stakeholders to protect children from alcohol and drug-related harm. A strong, supportive family is one of the most effective protective factors against substance abuse.

The community was also sensitized on our toll-free helpline 1192, which provides counselling, support, and referrals for individuals and families affected by alcohol and drug use.

We are grateful to the community members of Kimoning for their engagement and commitment to protecting their children.

PLANTING 2,000 TREES FOR A GREENER UASIN GISHU. 🌱

Our Uasin Gishu County Coordination Team, in collaboration with members of the local community and National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), participated in a tree-planting exercise at the Assistant Chief's compound, where 2,000 assorted indigenous and exotic tree seedlings were planted.

The initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation, enhance vegetation cover, strengthen climate resilience, and foster community ownership of environmental protection efforts. Trees are essential for clean air, water conservation, and climate resilience.

It also underscored the importance of collective responsibility in restoring the environment and safeguarding natural resources for present and future generations. When communities come together to plant and nurture trees, they invest in a healthier, more sustainable future for everyone.

We also took the opportunity to sensitize participants on alcohol and drug abuse prevention, emphasizing the connection between a healthy environment and healthy lifestyles. We shared our toll-free helpline 1192 for counselling, information, and referrals.

PLANTING TREES AND SENSITIZING LEARNERS IN SAMBURU. 🌱

Our Samburu County Office carried out a tree-planting exercise today at the Catholic Diocese of Maralal, The Irene School, and Maralal DEB Comprehensive School.

The office planted 225 tree seedlings. The exercise was part of our commitment to environmental conservation and promoting a greener, healthier future.

We also capitalized on this platform to extensively sensitize the learners on the harmful effects of alcohol and drug abuse, including on their studies and future careers. We emphasized that substance abuse derails academic performance, destroys future opportunities, and undermines the potential of young people.

We also shared our toll-free helpline 1192 for counselling, information, and referrals. We encouraged the learners to make healthy choices, resist peer pressure, and focus on their education and dreams.

STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS FOR A DRUG-FREE GENERATION WITH WORLD VISION KENYA. 🤝

Today, the Authority engaged the World Vision Kenya team to explore strategic areas of collaboration in alcohol and drug abuse prevention.

With World Vision Kenya operating in 33 counties, this partnership presents an opportunity to expand our reach, strengthen community interventions, and build a healthier, drug-free generation. World Vision Kenya's extensive grassroots presence and community-based programming make them an invaluable partner in reaching vulnerable populations, especially children and young people.

We explored areas of collaboration including prevention education, community sensitization, capacity building, and support for affected individuals and families. We also discussed the importance of integrating substance abuse prevention into existing community development programs.

We remain committed to building strategic partnerships that enhance our impact across the country. Together, we can build a healthier, drug-free generation.
